K-6 Curriculum Update
May 2018
Curriculum Maps and Assessment
- Evaluate teacher survey data with curriculum teams and administrators.
- Evaluate EOY NWEA data with curriculum teams and administrators.
- Administrator retreat to debrief achievement data and staff feedback
- Workshop day(s) with curriculum teams and administrators to adjust maps and assessments (if needed) based on feedback and achievement data.
Dates to note:
- May 15 - DOE Releases ILEARN Blueprints and Item Specs
- June 14 - Math and ELA Curriculum teams meet to review district data
- June 21 - ELA and Math Curriculum Teams meet for Maps/ Assessments Workshop
- July - Maps and Assessments finalized
We will use a similar process at the end of every year. That does not necessarily mean the maps will change every year but every year we will evaluate how successful we have been in implementation.
Next year you can be looking for academic vocabulary to be listed on curriculum maps, word work maps, and after school or Tuesday morning PD on mastery learning as well as continued PD for 2-6 reading block and K-2 version of the same PD.
Reading PD Update
I would love to hear feedback from individuals who are implementing guided reading in their classroom. What questions still exist? What challenges are you facing? Sharing this type of feedback with me helps me plan more effective PD in the future.
Many thanks to Jill for helping me present and for helping me refine the presentation this past week!
CCS Data Dashboards - Update
The K-6 Data Dashboard process continues to move forward. Our committee has completed their work on developing Key Performance Indicators (think gas gauge or speed gauge on a car) and those can be found listed here. This document is called the "3-word version" because it explains each Key Performance Indicator (KPI) in 3 words or less (okay sometimes 4 words).
Keep in mind that for each KPI there will be an assessment protocol that will inform how we measure our effectiveness for the KPI. For the KPI's highlighted in green we are already assessing student progress in these areas. The ones highlighted in yellow are what we will implement next year. There are subcommittees of teachers and administrators working on these processes through the month of April and into May. We hope to have them finalized to share before school let's out.
Keep in mind that our dashboard is meant to serve as a quick indicator of the health of our system. We should be able to glance at the data for our class, grade, school or school district and have a good idea as to whether we are on track, trending up or down, or have areas we need to address.
