Hasty News
Week of April 8__ School Year 23-24
Dr. Regan Message
Greetings Parents/Guardian~
Hello April!!
WELCOME BACK! Our scholars have been greatly missed and we are excited to begin our teaching and learning journey once again. I hope your Spring Break was filled with wonderful moments and cherished memories with your loved ones. It's hard to believe that we only have about 35 days left of school and instruction. Time has flown by so quickly, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of such an amazing community.
As you are all aware, students in grades 3-5 will soon be taking the Georgia Milestones Assessment, which is scheduled for late April and continues through the middle of May. Check out the preparedness material below. The purpose of this assessment is to provide crucial information about student achievement and their readiness for the next level of learning. To ensure that your scholar is well-prepared for the assessment, please make sure they get a good night's sleep, are well-rested, and arrive at school on time to enjoy a nutritious breakfast. Stay updated on end-of-year events and activities as there will be plenty to look forward to.
Spring is here, and it's going to be an amazing season filled with growth and new opportunities!
Milestones Preparedness
Hasty students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will take the Georgia Milestones Assessment in the months of April and May. The Georgia Milestones Assessment is designed to provide information about how well students are mastering the state-adopted content standards in the core content areas of English language arts, mathematics, and science.
Below you will find a link to the Georgia Milestones Virtual Parent Guide which is filled with important information and resources to help your student prepare for the assessment.

Beginning Monday, January 8, 2024, car rider line will stop at 7:30AM. This will allow our scholars to get to breakfast and transition to homeroom so learning may begin at 7:35AM. Students who arrive after 7:30AM will need to be checked into the office. Make every effort to have your scholar at school on time.

As a reminder, we have implemented a subtle alteration to benefit our students. Kindly use the email address mentioned below or write a note to inform us about any changes in transportation arrangements. From now on, we will not share transportation email or updates via phone. Instead, please refer to the weekly parent newsletter for the transportation email.
Transportation Change: To change daily transportation for a student, it is best to send a note to school with your student on the day of the change.
- In an emergency, you may click the link below to email a transportation change to Hasty.Transportation@cherokeek12.net BEFORE 1:00 PM. Messages received after 1:00 PM will NOT be processed.
Changes must include:
- Today's date
- Teacher name
- Transportation change information (if it is a bus change, please include the Bus #)
- Parent Picture ID
If you have not received a confirmation email by 1:00 p.m., please call the school at
770-721-6555 to verify that the change has been received.
RESOURCE HIGHLIGHT: SIGHT WORD PRACTICE
Parents, it may surprise you that the top three hundred sight words account for approximately two-thirds of all written material. Just imagine the incredible advantage your child will have once they have mastered these words. I strongly urge you to take the time to review these sight words with your child, as it will significantly enhance their reading skills. Sight Words | Smore Newsletters

- Early Check-out should occur before 1:30PM
- Students in Kindergarten through third grade will be transported back to school if no guardian, parent, or appropriate sibling is present to supervise the child upon departure from the school bus.
- The Yellow tags on students' backpacks are issued to all students in grades Pre- Kindergarten through third grade, alerting the bus driver to not allow students off the bus without a guardian, parent, or appropriate sibling present. Please do not remove the yellow tag.
- The CCSD transportation team asks that if a person other than the parent is picking up the student at the bus stop, the parent should write a note denoting who will pick up at the bus stop and send it to school. The individual picking up the student should have identification available.
- Using a cell phone and a device to call or text at school will result in a disciplinary infraction.
- Free and Reduced Application: Avoid unnecessary charges- https://linqconnect.com/
- Express Gateway: https://express.cherokeek12.net/
The express gateway portal is used to update information for currently enrolled students. Parents will need to use their child’s student ID number as the username and password and the students GTID number as the password.

- Parents should pull forward before stopping for their child to exit the vehicle.
Car rider Afternoon Dismissal
- Car Rider dismissal will begin at about 2:25. We will collect the parents' names in line.
- As you enter the carpool line, please display your car tag on your rearview mirror so carpool staff can radio to staff inside for your child to come to their assigned station.
- You will be REQUIRED to use the school-issued car tag to pick up your child. If you do not have a tag, you must go to the office to show proper identification to pick up your child and ensure you are on the pick-up list.
- Tags will be issued at Meet and Greet, on the first day of school, or from the office thereafter.
- Each family will receive 2 Car Rider Tags. Any additional tags will have to be purchased for $5.00.
- If a parent does not have their designated car rider tag, he/she will be directed to park and go into the front office to get one. Parents will be asked to show their ID and a new car rider tag will be issued. Parents will have the choice to get back in the car rider line or wait until dismissal is over for their child to be called to the front office.
Car Rider Etiquette:
- Please remember to pull all the way forward in the car rider line to expedite arrival and dismissal.
- Morning: Please have your child ready to exit the vehicle (i.e., shoes on, backpacks zipped, water bottles closed and secure)
