HES Happenings
Where our Monomoy students are 'fin'tastic!
September 30th, 2016
"Music Counts Every Day" at HES - The Composer and Composition that we will be listening to every morning as we get the day started at HES next week will be...Johann Sabastian Bach.
Our composer this week is Johann Sebastian Bach. Like Handel, he was born in Germany and in n the same year.
This music is from a collection of dances caller a “Suite” and is a very soothing piece of music that will get us into the right mood for the day.

Kate Serafini -Physical Education Teacher
Fran Jorgenson - Art Teacher
I grew up in town and attended Harwich
Schools K-12.
Art has been a passion for me since
childhood. I attended UMASS at Dartmouth,
where I received my Bachelors in Fine Arts.
After graduation, I worked with autistic
children at The May Institute for nine years,
which provided me with great experience in
behavior management. During those years, I
returned to college for my Masters in
Elementary Education. Following graduation,
I worked as an art teacher at Stony Brook
Elementary School in Brewster. In 2001, I
began as a Special Needs teacher at Harwich
Elementary School. I bought a home in
Harwich, where I am raising my children,
Hope and Thomas.
Three years ago, I transferred to my current
position, which a perfect fit for me! I love
nurturing the children’s’ creative abilities,
opening their eyes to the art around them,
and helping them expand their knowledge!
Sara Idman - Library/Media Teacher
After graduating from Chatham High School, I received my B.A. from Bucknell University in German and Psychology. Realizing that the library was my favorite place to be during college, I decided to pursue my Masters in Library and Information Science at the University of Washington (go Huskies!). Since graduating with my library degree, I have worked in public, academic and school libraries. This is my second year as the school librarian at Harwich Elementary School. I love teaching all the students in kindergarten through fourth grade. My goal is to instill a lifelong love of reading and learning in every student at HES. When I am not working, I am a busy mother of two teenage children, and I live with my husband, children, and two black rescue dogs in Harwich. Some students also know me from my previous job working at Brooks Free Library. My favorite after school activities are reading historical fiction, baking chocolate chip cookies for my children, and walking my dogs in the woods.
Larry Brookhart - Instructional Technology Teacher
I moved to Harwich 30 years ago and am amazed at the beauty of our local geography with its beach vistas, kettle ponds, marshes and hiking trails. Yes, I am a Yankee fan implanted in Red Sox Nation.
I have the pleasure of introducing students to the exciting world of technology and the areas of robotics, computer science and astronomy. We also support classroom curriculum in the studies of science, math, art, history, writing and publishing.
At Harwich Elementary School we prepare children to be responsible digital citizens as they explore the use of online programs; technology tools such as word processing, spreadsheet and paint software; robots that can be directed through maps and gameboards using programmable sensors; and telescopes housed at our observatory.
The Harwich Observatory is a fully-equipped science facility located at our school building. Events at the observatory are always free and open to the public. For more information please check out our website: www.monomoy.edu/harwichobservatory.
