Panther Post
February 20th - 25th
Hello Lopez Families,
Our 8th grade class panoramic picture is coming up. The 8th graders received an envelope on Friday detailing how to order, for those who are interested.
I want to remind everyone that we cannot allow parents to drop off lunches for students other than their own. There are too many students with food allergies or restrictions, or even calorie concerns, that we would need to contact their parents each time and get their permission. That is a busy time for us and it would not be an efficient use of our time. Thank you for your understanding.
For those of you who did not make it to the talent show, WOW! We have such talent here at Lopez. I can't even imagine me getting up on stage at that age just to speak, yet these kids performed amazingly. We had Rachel Miller, Emily Riojas and alumni Mackenzie Striffler singing beautifully for us. Robyn Loehs played a gorgeous piece on the piano and Hallie Betts played a violin that gave us goosebumps. Kyan Shupe played the guitar and sang. Nailah Lee performed an interpretive dance while Jenna Small blew us away with her vocals. And then, there was Luna Islas that wowed us with lighted hula hoops. What a fun night! Below is Jenna and Nailah entertaining the crowd.
Sincerely,
Mr. Wernli

Service Hours
Lopez families,
Lopez Panthers should be tracking their service hours. The hours should be tracked in their Leader in Me binder on the service hour log page. They may also track their hours for the PVSA awards website. This consists of time they spend in any type of volunteer role - at school or on their own. This will help them reach their personal goal and will help Lopez complete their school-wide important goal of 10,000 service hours this year.
Instructions on how to enter your service hours can be found at: https://snapguide.com/guides/log-presidents-volunteer-service-award-hours/.
The site for actually putting in your hours is: http://presidentialserviceawards.gov.
Send us a picture of your child in his/her service role and we will display it on a celebrations wall! mvolz@neisd.net or ftobac@neisd.net
We can't wait to see the great ways our Lopez Panthers Serve!

Foundation Information
8th Annual Ian's Cup
Claudia Taylor “Lady Bird” Johnson high school’s Future Business Leaders of America are hosting our second annual Make A Change Festival on Friday, February 24 2017 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Johnson high school. We are having a glow walk on a track we have mapped out around our school and booths with games hosted by businesses and school clubs on our football field along with our DJ. All the proceeds raised from this event will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. We chose this charity because breast cancer is a growing problem in our community with 1 in 8 U.S. women developing invasive breast cancer and 1 in 1,000 men developing invasive breast cancer. Also our chapter’s president lost his grandmother to breast cancer last summer and my grandfather is a survivor of breast cancer. Raising money for this cause allows new technology to be developed to find safer, more affordable, less painful treatments. We will also raise awareness of healthy habits to detect breast cancer in an earlier stage, making it easier to treat.
We would love to have our whole community come together and support this cause and memorialize those who have lost the battle to this dreadful disease and celebrate those who have defeated it.
