What is toxoplasmosis?
Toxoplasmosis is a disease that results from infection with the toxoplasma gondii parasite, the worlds most common parasite.
Causes & Complications
To get Toxoplasmosis you can come into contact with cat feces, eat or drink anything contaminated, and having transfused blood or a transplant.
You don't notice any complications unless you have a weak immune system. The symptoms are eye infections, seizures, encephalitis, hearing loss, and/or mental disability.
Testing & Treatment
To test for Toxoplasmosis doctors take blood tests. If you are pregnant and your baby has Toxoplasmosis the hospital would remove some fluid from the amniotic sac or do an ultra sound. In severe cases you would get a MRI or a brain biopsy. To get rid of the parasite you will take darraprim. If you are pregnant you will take spiramycin.
Life Outlook
Toxoplasmosis can be fatal. If you are healthy you don't notice any symptoms. If you treat toxoplasmosis right you will only notice it for a couple weeks or months.
