SCIS PRINCIPAL MESSAGE 9/7/23

September 7, 2023
A NOTE FROM MRS. RAWLINS
Dear Sloan Creek Families,
This short school week was not short on learning and fun! Our students are fully embracing expectations for essential academic and social behaviors in classrooms and common areas. Sloan Creek PRIDE is evident in all areas and we are so proud of our students!
As always, this weekly newsletter is packed with important information. We appreciate you taking a few moments to read through so you are fully aware of everything going on at Sloan Creek. In an effort to keep you informed, Team Learning Updates are now posted below and will be updated each week!
Leopard Friday activities are postponed until Friday, October 27th due to extreme weather conditions. The football game will go on as planned and we hope to see many Sloan Creek students cheering from the stands! Campus and district administrators will be present to ensure students are following the Student Code of Conduct while having a great time with friends. Please remind your students that they should be in the stands watching the game. Running around, loitering near concessions or under the stands will result in students being redirected to the stands or to their parents.
Next week, students will participate in beginning of the year MAP Growth Testing. Please see below for more information about this valuable assessment.
Finally, next week kicks off our BOOK FAIR in the library! In honor of Grandparents Day, we invite Grandparents to enjoy lunch with their Sloan Creek Grandchildren on the day of their choice next week and visit the Book Fair as well! Please note that Grandparents should follow the "Visitors" protocols listed below.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education. As always, if you have concerns or suggestions on how we can make Sloan Creek the BEST it can be, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Sloan Creek PROUD,
❤️🐆 Megan Rawlins

PEANUT BUTTER DRIVE
HOUSE BILL 114
There has been a significant change in the law that directly impacts our school district’s approach to addressing e-cigarette usage on school premises. Recently, the Texas legislature passed a new law, House Bill 114, that requires school districts to implement mandatory Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) placement for students found in possession of, using, selling, giving, or delivering e-cigarettes on school grounds or at a school-related event.
Effective September 1, our school district will be enforcing this new state law, and any student violating the new law related to e-cigarettes will be subject to a DAEP placement. Our primary goal is to ensure the well-being and academic success of all students. By enforcing the DAEP placement for e-cigarette violations, this law aims to discourage the use of harmful substances and create a safer environment that supports the overall health and development of our students.
As we navigate this new legal requirement, we value your partnership and input as parents and guardians. If you need assistance in talking to your child about the dangers of vaping, or your child is in need of support to quit vaping, the linked resources provided by the Anti-Vaping Truth Initiative are available.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we work together to create a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students.

The Lovejoy Green Team is implementing a new recycling program beginning on Leopard Friday: Sept. 8th at Leopard Stadium. There are an estimated 4000 bottles at every varsity home football game that have been going to the landfill but they can be recycled. The Lovejoy Green Team does not funding from Lovejoy ISD and we need your help to buy bins for fields, courts and gyms.
Please consider donating to sponsor-a-bin or donate towards the purchase of a bin. Thank you for helping to make Lovejoy Cleaner and Greener. 100% of donations directly support Green Team programs and your donation is tax deductible.
