Eaton e-News

July 20th, 2020

Welcome to 2020-2021!

First, we'd like to welcome all students, families, staff members, and community members to the 2020-2021 school year!

While we may not know exactly what the school year will look like just yet, we know that we are excited to kick things off. We are a strong school community, made up of many smart, resilient, and hardworking minds. Our students and families deserve the very best, and that's what our staff intends to give them, in whatever form is necessary. We can, and will, get through this!

Most importantly, we need you all to click the link below and complete the attached survey for EACH child that attends Eaton. This survey will provide us with ESSENTIAL information that we must have as we continue planning for the beginning of the school year, so please complete it as soon as possibly, and no later than Thursday, July 23rd.

Additionally, attached to the bottom of this newsletter, you will see a Back-to-School Family Guide provided by New Hanover County Schools for the 2020-2021 school year (English and Spanish versions). We encourage you to use this information when making your decisions and completing the survey.

Welcome New Eaton Staff Members!

Sarah Parson: Art Teacher

Hello! My name is Sarah Parson and I am so excited to be Eaton Elementary's new art teacher! This is my 8th year teaching art, last year I taught at College Park Elementary. I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a Masters in Art Education in 2011. I am currently working on my National Board Certification. Art is amazing!! The act of creating brings me pure joy and sharing this with my students adds so much richness to my world. I am thankful that I get to spend my days sharing my passion for art with others. I can't wait to get to know all of you and the wonderful students at Eaton.

Tammy Frieberg: School Nurse

Nurse Tammy (as she is known in school) transfers to us from Sunset Park where she worked over 3 years. She has been a pediatric nurse for over 20 years, having worked in pediatric clinics in Vermont & New York, and in elementary schools in Vermont & North Carolina. Prior to pediatrics, she worked both in hospital and clinic settings in adult medicine, dialysis, and ob/gyn. She grew up in Vermont where she went to school obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the University of Vermont and later obtained a Master's Degree in Nursing Administration online from Canyon College. She is currently employed by the New Hanover County Health Department and has served the county during hurricanes, as well as most recently with COVID-19, working in several capacities including co-chair of the transition back to school committee. Although only working just over 3 years with the county health department, she has been part of the school nurse orientation committee and has helped to mentor new school nurses to their new role. She is looking forward to getting to know all the Eaton Olympians and is excited to be here!

Whitney Maher: 2nd Grade

Hi! I’m Whitney Maher (pronounced MAY-er). I was born in a little town called Fairmont about an hour west of Wilmington. I graduated from UNCW in 2008 and again in 2013 with a Masters in Language and Literacy. In my career, I’ve taught in several downtown schools, in Pender County at Cape Fear Elementary, and most recently at the International School at Gregory. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Attention Rising Kindergarten Parents!

We are excited to have your child join us as an official Olympian soon! Please look for a screening survey to be emailed in the next few days. This will include some basic questions about your child, in lieu of the traditional screening process we would normally follow. The information you provide will help us learn more about your child and create our four Kindergarten classes.
