HOOT NEWS
SCIENCE FAIR:
Our science fair was a huge success! Wow, I love seeing our Doss Owls soar! Thank you all for your hard work and dedication to our students and these projects - I know it's not always easy! Thank you especially to Nan-Hee Crawford for spearheading this event and putting in extra time to make our science fair so great!
COUNSELORS ROCK!
It's school counselor week and we are so lucky to have two outstanding counselors here at Doss. Please take a moment this week to let them know how much we appreciate them!
SUBSTITUTES:
We are short staffed in the office right now and hope to have our attendance position filled soon. Right now, Pat is doing substitutes and working on attendance. It's a lot on her plate! Thank you for putting your sub need into the system if you are unable to find someone. Thank you to teams who have stepped up to help when we couldn't find a sub! Please be sure to TEXT Janna or Latrese is you are going to be out so that we can help Pat to ensure you have a sub. Again, if you are going to be out, please text me or Latrese.
UPCOMING STUDENT HOLIDAYS:
Teachers - ACTION NEEDED! It became apparent to us in this morning's PPC that parents are unaware that February 9th and 19th are student holidays. Please relay this information to your parents! Kristen emailed you a copy of the Anderson Vertical Team calendar for this year. Please feel free to distribute this to parents via email or Living Tree.
PTA SPRING BUDGET:
It's the spring budget cycle for the Doss PTA. I have emailed the team leads the form for your request. Please work as a team to address any needs. We need a quick turnaround on these request. Please have request turned in to me by February 9th.
TEACHER OF THE YEAR:
Teacher of the Year Nomination forms are in your mailbox. Please return them to Ms.Smith's Box by Monday 2/5/18.
REGISTRATION:
We are about to begin our registration process for the 2018-2019 school year. Students received this information in their Wednesday folders. In order to be registered and put in a class for 18-19, students will need to 1. complete the online registration 2. complete the blue form and 3. turn in their proof of address. All three steps must be completed. We are starting the registration process earlier this year. Please communicate this information to your parents and work to get all required forms back.
PARENT CONFERENCES:
Parent Conference Day is February 19th. Please begin scheduling conferences with ALL struggling, refugee, and gifted and talented students. It is critical to make a concerted effort to reach out to all refugee families. If a translator is needed please email Bradford Hardie. He will arrange these services. In your GT conferences share your methods for differentiation and their progress in the current semester and goals for the remainder of the year.
If you are considering retention or placing a child for next year, be sure to document in ECST and have parents sign retention forms.
STUDENT WORK DISPLAYS:
Thanks for updating the bulletin boards and for decorating our hallways with student work. It's fun to see the many learning projects taking place! It's great to see the objective of the lesson as well.
STUDENTS ON STAGE:
Do your students want to come on stage during the assembly this month to talk about Random Acts of Kindness and/or Black History Month? Let me know!
ONSITE BIOMETRIC SCREENING:
The onsite biometric screening day has been canceled due to low enrollment. :(
STAFF CLIMATE SURVEY:
Each of you should have received your climate survey that we do every January from the AISD Department of Research. Please take a moment and complete that survey. We appreciate your anonymous feedback and will use it to improve our school.
LAMAR UNIVERSITY CAMPUS VISIT:
Lamar University is coming to our campus to promote higher education opportunities for staff. They will be here on Wednesday, February 7th from 10:30-1:30. Stop by the lounge if you're interested! They will have pizza! :)

The Doss Spring Party is fast approaching on Saturday, April 14th! All the money raised from the party directly supports Doss! The Committee is looking for vacation rentals, connections to local restaurants or businesses, local celebrities, or even just a name of someone that the committee could approach for auction items. If you don't have something to donate, do you have a family member or friend who might?

COMPUTER LAB
The computer lab will be closed on Thursday, Feb. 22, from 12:00-3:00 to support refugee registration.
Please start thinking about what technology you want to move to the next campus and what you can leave behind. We have to track all electronics that were purchased by AISD and turn the outdated equipment back to the district (it’s an accounting thing). I will be coming around to each teacher to talk about the electronics in your area and what should happen to it when we move. I am coordinating the move for all technology, electronics, etc. I have started a working document for this move that you can review and comment on at the Google doc below. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oP8Rx1RQXk26Hocp_g1DXSF4Afr66Ht-QJmkOEg3OZk/edit?usp=sharing
