Wrightstown Ravens' News
October 8, 2021
We had an exciting day of fire prevention presentations! I would like to thank the Lingohocken Fire Co. for spending the day visiting our classrooms to share important information about fire safety with students! Also, I am so proud of all of our artists who submitted posters for the fire poster contest! They look terrific!
It is hard to believe that Halloween is just a few weeks away! Please be sure to review our specific Halloween plans below. Additionally, this is a reminder for afternoon car riders. Parents, please ensure that you stay in your car at all times and have your child/ren enter your car from the curbside only. I appreciate your attention to these procedures.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Beth

Halloween at WES
Halloween is fast approaching which means it is time for our annual Halloween celebration. This year the parade will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021, at 9:45 A.M. Classroom parties will take place immediately following the parade. PM Kindergarten parents can expect to receive information regarding party and parade plans in a separate communication from their teacher.
Costumes:
Costumes should be worn to school. With an early parade start time, it will be more efficient to have students dressed in costume when they arrive to school. Students will need to bring a change of clothes to school with them.
We recognize the selection of costumes is part of the Halloween fun. We ask for your assistance with the following considerations:
- Safety is our number one priority. Costumes must be safe with masks that offer good respiration, are not violent and/or gory and do not obstruct vision.
- Costumes that represent violence and/or have toy weapons (even as part of an overall costume), or resemble that of a weapon are inappropriate for this parade.
Parade Route:
Students will start the parade in the building at 9:45 a.m. They will exit through the front school doors, proceed left down the bus lane and loop around to the car lane. Students will proceed over to the side parking lot where they will enter the building by the gym doors. They will proceed through the school and come back out the front doors to do a second loop through the lanes and side lot. Visitors are welcome to stand outside the parade route to take pictures of the children. Please note that only the parents whose names are provided to the office by the homeroom teacher will be permitted in the school. This is for the safety of your child and all the students of the school. For those that are on the list to be admitted to the school, please have your driver's license ready so that we can scan it.
Classroom Party Attendance:
Each grade level has determined the number of parent volunteers necessary to assist with costumes and classroom parties with a maximum of four total. Classroom volunteers will be determined prior to parade day. The front office will be given a list of volunteers prior to Halloween and will check these lists as parents sign in that day. Please be sure to sign in at the office to obtain a visitor’s badge.
All other parents are welcome to view the parade. However, in an effort to improve safety and security, only documented volunteers will gain access to the building and classrooms for the parties. If you plan to dress up in costume, please do not wear a mask or face paint. We need to be able to recognize visitors in the building. We apologize that everyone cannot have access to the building on this day.
At the end of the day, existing sign-out procedures will remain unchanged. Feel free to contact me with any questions. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding in helping our children enjoy these exciting Halloween festivities. We are looking forward to a fun morning! Please refer to the parade map below.
CAFETERIA UPDATE
We recently had a new Point of Sale system installed in the cafeteria. Students need to punch in their ID numbers when getting a free lunch or when purchasing snack. It is important that students know their ID numbers so we can keep the lunch lines moving.
Veterans Day Program
During the program, students will sing, share poems, thank you notes, and essays. Please send the names and any photos of Veterans who would like to participate in this event to gwinslow@crsd.org no later than Wednesday, October 27th.

Library News
The WES library is thrilled to welcome all our students back. We have added many wonderful books to our collection and are excited that students are learning, and continuing, to self-select literature. Our 5th and 6th graders have been introduced to the collection of Reading Olympics books for our spring 2022 competition. We are reviewing and embarking upon new adventures from author studies, call number recognition, searching Destiny and internet safety. We would like to thank the 6th grade Girl Scout troop for donating funds to the WES library for new collection purchases. We are looking forward to a fabulous school year of reading.
Counselor's Corner
In response to the recent storms we had in this area, I wanted to share a few helpful resources to manage storm anxiety at home.
Please reach out to me if your student is worried about storms and it may impact their school day.
All the best,
Mrs. Barbara Aiello
From the Nurse's Office

Reading at Wrightstown from Mrs. Etgen
Wrightstown students have already been working hard at reading this year! With the help of the Title One assistance, Mrs. Keen, and myself, we have had the pleasure of reading with each student at Wrightstown this year! This reading snapshot enables us to get a glimpse of each student’s strengths and weaknesses when it comes to reading. Please keep in mind that, as the literacy specialist in the building, I often read with many of the students, both in and out of the classroom. Sometimes I co-teach, and other times I work on special topics or projects. If your child is chosen to participate in the reading intervention program, you will be notified and given a permission note. Also, please know that your input is important and you are always a part of our teaching team! Although we see your child daily in the school, if you see struggles with reading activities at home, please reach out and let us know. If you have any questions or need book suggestions, feel free to check out the links on my website, or email me at petgen@crsd.org . Lastly, as always, take the time to read with your child and enjoy that special time together - no matter how old they are!
