Danville South Elementary
Maximizing Student Growth While Creating Positive Memories
February 14, 2020
No School - Monday, February 17th - President's Day
We Love to Read
Be sure to ask your child what activities they loved the most. You can also dive deeper into the reading conversation by asking some of the following;
What book are you currently reading?
What is your all-time favorite book?
Do you have a favorite genre?
Was there a book where you felt really connected to a character or situation?
Have you ever read a book that made you think of another book you have read?
What is the most interesting thing you have ever learned from a book you have read?
Is there a book you would have ended differently? If so, why and how would you end it?
K-Kids Crayon Initiative
K-Kids will be collecting crayons for The Crayon Initiative. These crayons will be collected, sent to the Crayon Initiative, melted, and then created into new crayons and distributed to children's hospitals across the US. How great is that?! This will continue through May and our North friends will be joining us in collecting as well.
Students are encouraged to clean out their desks and put any broken or old crayons in the Crayon Initiative boxes in their classroom throughout the rest of the year.

Positive Male Role Models Needed!
We NEED you! On Thursday, March 19, 2020 Sheltering Wings and Men IN Action will enlist 440+ male volunteers to go into each Hendricks County elementary school classroom to read a book that focuses on important character traits such as support, positive identity, positive peer influence and commitment to learning. The goals of this event are to teach and prompt conversations with children about important character values, engage in a volunteer opportunity and show our community that we are a community that stands for healthy values and relationships. This is a great opportunity to have a positive influence on our youth and lead with intention.
