Andersen Elementary - November 2019
Message from our principal Mrs. Kinghorn
Dear Andersen Families,
The weather is cooling down and Fall is in the air! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Fall Family Night this week. Students and families enjoyed the games, treats and the awesome story book pumpkins. Thank you to all the families that donated candy and volunteered to hand out candy throughout the evening. This event would not have been successful without the support of our amazing community.
November is a month of being thankful. I have so much to be thankful for here at Andersen. I am thankful for the dedicated teachers who give their all every day for our students. I am thankful for the supportive parent community who trusts us to educate their children. I am thankful for the businesses who support our school.
This month Northrop Grumman is giving back to Andersen Elementary. Over 100 volunteers will be on site to help beautify our campus. We are so honored to be chosen and appreciate their efforts with improving our school.
Finally, I am thankful for our Veterans. We will be honoring our Veteran’s on Friday, November 8th at 8:30 a.m. If you, a family member or friend are a Veteran please join us to celebrate and honor you. Please RSVP to Jennifer Chastain at Chastain.Jennifer@cusd80.com
This is a friendly reminder to all our families that utilize parent drop off and pickup; we are seeing an increase in the number of cars parking and the driver getting out of the car. If you are using the drop off and pick up lanes we ask that you remain in your vehicle. It backs traffic up when you get out and holds up the line. Please practice with your child getting out of the car quickly to keep the line moving. If you need to get out of your car to help your child please park in the front parking lot and utilize our crosswalk.
Thank you for all you do for our school! We know you have a choice when it comes to your child’s education and we appreciate you choosing Andersen.
MESSAGE FROM OUR DEAN MR. BROWN
I am excited to announce that we will start implementing the Second Step program over the next few weeks.
Second Step is a program rooted in social-emotional learning (SEL), which is the process through which children and adults can better understand, manage, and express emotions and empathy, develop positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
Please be on the lookout for parent letters and ways you can incorporate Second Step in the home.
