What's happening next week...

We are looking forward to a fabulous week of learning to wrap up our fall semester!

Wed. 12/17 is our Kindergarten Pajama Day! Your child may wear pajamas, a robe, and slippers to school. Please make sure that they have another pair of shoes to wear for recess.

Fri. 12/19 is our Holiday Party. Kindergarten will have their party from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Parents are welcome to come and join us for the party!

Report Card Assessments

Over the next two weeks, kindergarten teachers will be assessing students on the standards taught in the 2nd nine weeks for GKIDS and our report cards.

Please practice the following skills with your child if he/she does not have mastery of these:

- Reading all sight words taught this year

- Writing at least 1 - 2 sentences about a topic, with capital letters at the beginning of a sentence

- When writing the word "I," capitalizing it. (i.e. My mom and I walked home).

- Coins and their values (penny, nickel, dime, & quarter)

- Counting from 1 - 100

- Counting from 1 - 100 by 10's (10, 20, 30, 40, and so on)

- Numbers 0 - 20 written correctly & legibly

- Counting on from a given number (i.e. Start at 12 and count up: 12, 13, 14, 15, 16...)

Sight Words to Know

Here are the sight words we have learned in the 1st and 2nd nine weeks.

1st 9 weeks: the, at, can, I, see, my, it, is, me, in, to, we, like, up, mom, and, he, look, come, get, a

2nd 9 weeks: jump, have, be, here, make, was, little, play, she, went, by, on, has, one, you, girl, said, as, will, am

Literacy Learning

Next week is our Gingerbread week! Each day, we will be reading a different gingerbread book. After reading, we will be comparing and contrasting characters to determine how they are alike and different. We will also be comparing the texts to notice the setting, which is where the story takes place.

Due to report card and reading level assessments, your child will not be meeting in reading groups every day. If your child does not come home with a book, please read a book from home and practice sight words.

Math Memo:

We will continue our review of math skills taught this year. Specifically, our review will focus on ordinal numbers (first, second, third, fourth, fifth, etc) as well as counting by 1's and 10's to 100. Many children can count very high, but get confused when they hit 80 and 90. Make a game of counting to 100 by having your child count while you are waiting in line somewhere!

Please practice coins with your child! He/she must be able to correctly identify the coins by name and value. Use the study guide attached to practice. Try printing it, out, cutting the boxes apart, and playing coin memory with the cards!
