Week 8
We are in the homestretch of the first part of our semester and are working in week 8! This week we are continuing Unit 4, La Tierra, lessons 4 and 5 which consists of several assignments. Students should have already completed Unit 4, lessons 1, 2 and 3 this past Friday. I communicated with all parents this past week about your student's progress. In addition, students will be doing a Final project for Units 3/4 this week where they combine the two units along with a Final Project quiz (together these are 15% of grade). Please encourage your student to start working on this project and contact me if they have questions or need ideas.
NCVPS does not have Fall Break. If your student's school has Fall Break, he or she is still expected to login daily and complete the week's assignments for this class. Students are also encouraged to work ahead.
Please speak with your student and make sure that he/she has already completed or completes all work for Weeks 1-7 by this Friday, October 21 @ 11:55pm when the first 7 weeks' assignments will close. This includes any and all assignments for the Getting Started Unit, Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3 and Unit 4, lessons 1, 2, 3.
Below is a list of this week's assignments:
All students have submitted a statement to me, acknowledging that he/she understands both closing dates. Please encourage your student to reach out and ask for help this week. In addition, I text/email students weekly, if not more, to check on them. I can also tutor them in the RLC classroom, one-on-one or speak with a student on the phone to help. Peer Tutoring is also available to help students in specific areas.

How are grades calculated?
Being a CANVAS observer in our class!
Parents and facilitators can now download the Canvas Parent app in both the iTunes and Google Play stores
Parents and facilitators will need student login information to set up their parent accounts. This will have to come from the school. NCVPS cannot supply login credentials to parents or facilitators. Check with your school's e-learning advisor (ELA).
The Canvas Parent app is designed to provide visibility into a student's progress at a glance. Canvas Parent allows both parents and facilitators to:
- View assignment descriptions and due dates
- Set reminders for assignments
- View assignment grades
- View course grades
- Set grade alerts
- View course announcements

Parents and facilitators can also use the Parent Portal online. Directions on how to use the portal are here.
