Week 8

We are in the homestretch of the first part of our semester and are working in week 8! This week we are continuing Unit 4, La Tierra, lessons 4 and 5 which consists of several assignments. Students should have already completed Unit 4, lessons 1, 2 and 3 this past Friday. I communicated with all parents this past week about your student's progress. In addition, students will be doing a Final project for Units 3/4 this week where they combine the two units along with a Final Project quiz (together these are 15% of grade). Please encourage your student to start working on this project and contact me if they have questions or need ideas.

NCVPS does not have Fall Break. If your student's school has Fall Break, he or she is still expected to login daily and complete the week's assignments for this class. Students are also encouraged to work ahead.

Please speak with your student and make sure that he/she has already completed or completes all work for Weeks 1-7 by this Friday, October 21 @ 11:55pm when the first 7 weeks' assignments will close. This includes any and all assignments for the Getting Started Unit, Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3 and Unit 4, lessons 1, 2, 3.

To stay on pace, students should be completing Week 8, Unit 4, lessons 4 and 5 this week, but as always we give students an extra week to complete assignments. Week 8 (see highlighted above) must be completed by next Friday, October 28 @ 11:55pm when they will close.

All students have submitted a statement to me, acknowledging that he/she understands both closing dates. Please encourage your student to reach out and ask for help this week. In addition, I text/email students weekly, if not more, to check on them. I can also tutor them in the RLC classroom, one-on-one or speak with a student on the phone to help. Peer Tutoring is also available to help students in specific areas.

Missing/Incomplete Assignments

Please remember that any incomplete/missing assignments are calculated as 0s. If a student is behind, any work that should be done (or was missed/skipped) is being calculated as a 0 and greatly brings down his/her current average. I put 0s in every weekend for the previously due work from that week. This is one of the reasons that it is SO important for students to stay on track (or ahead), using the Schedule of Assignments. (Click here for the Spanish 3 Schedule of Assignments.) Once the assignment is completed, the new grade will override the 0, so the 0 is gone. If you or your student have ANY questions about grades/feedback, etc., please let me know! I encourage you to be a CANVAS observer and check your student's grades. Please encourage students to get those assignments completed and to contact me if they have questions. Students can go back and do any assignments (Weeks 1-7) that have zeros up till this Friday, October 21 @ 11:55pm.

Required Live Class for Unit 4

There is one more Required Live Class for Unit 4 this Friday @ 5pm. Click here for the link for my recorded session for Unit 4. I have also put the link for my recorded session in today's announcement for students.

How are grades calculated?

Being a CANVAS observer in our class!

Parents and facilitators can now download the Canvas Parent app in both the iTunes and Google Play stores

Parents and facilitators will need student login information to set up their parent accounts. This will have to come from the school. NCVPS cannot supply login credentials to parents or facilitators. Check with your school's e-learning advisor (ELA).

The Canvas Parent app is designed to provide visibility into a student's progress at a glance. Canvas Parent allows both parents and facilitators to:

  • View assignment descriptions and due dates
  • Set reminders for assignments
  • View assignment grades
  • View course grades
  • Set grade alerts
  • View course announcements

Students can go to their Home page on Canvas and click on the icon, The Culture Cafe for a detailed lists of future Culture Cafe sessions and how to log into the session. After attending a Culture Cafe session, students will complete a reflection about the class and submit it for extra credit.
