WMS Weekly Warrior
Week of 1-10-22
Good Afternoon WMS.
As we continue to manage these difficult times, we ask that you continue to remind your students of the importance of our strategies to keep school safe:
- Proper Mask Wearing
- Students, who are having difficulty with proper mask-wearing, are being addressed by the administration and may require home intervention.
- Maintain Social Distancing
- Middle School students need to socialize, and we understand the importance. Please maintain the appropriate distance when socializing in the hallways and the lunchroom.
- Washing Hands
- Hand sanitizer is available in every room. Please take advantage of it to maintain a healthy classroom.
Below is the letter from the Region 14 COVID Officer sent on 1-5-22, with guidelines from the state department of health:
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Region 14 Staff members:
On December 31,
2021, the Region 14 School District was informed that the CT State Department
of Public Health updated their considerations for Quarantine, Isolation,
Testing and Contact Tracing Policies and Procedures in Prek-12 schools based on
guidance from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention. I am writing to
advise our parents, guardians, and staff that the Region 14 School District
will adhere to these new guidelines effective immediately. The
information can be found by clicking here.
If you have any
questions, please contact me via email at TTanguay@ctreg14.org.
There is a PIM meeting Tuesday at 7:00. Please see the flyer below for more information. Currently, the parents attempting to organize PIM activities no longer have students in WMS. They are doing this until we can get more parents involved. If you have a few minutes Tuesday night, please stop in and see how you can be of some help.
With the short week last week, we are repeating last week’s Weekly Warrior for those who may have missed it.
We appreciate your support in helping us keep our schools open and safe
Weekly Warrior 1-3-22
Happy New Year! We hope your holiday break was restful and healthy. We thank you for your flexibility regarding today’s closing. As the superintendent’s letter stated, this decision was made for safety and health of our students and staff. We continue to work on assuring all classes are supervised and look forward to welcoming our students back on Tuesday, January 4th.
The latest variant of COVID has us continuing with our mitigation strategies that will help keep everyone safe. Including extra steps to sanitize and clean our building. We ask that you speak with your student about wearing their masks properly. That means a snug fit covering both their mouth and nose. I know this can be a contentious topic and appreciate everyone’s opinion, but WMS will follow state and DPH guidelines for wearing masks in schools. We will do our best to remind students of the importance and hope that you will respect and support this request.
We ask that if your child is experiencing any symptoms of illness or is awaiting a test result, please keep them home from school until symptoms pass or test negatively. If you have any questions, please contact your medical provider.
If a student is absent from school, please check the Google Classroom for each class. Teachers will post assignments for each day. Students who feel they are falling behind due to absences should contact their teacher through the Google help desk for that class.
The district will be supplied with a limited number of test kits and masks. A plan for delivery is currently being planned from the Region’s central office. Please look for a future announcement regarding their distribution. These supplies are for emergency services and we recommend testing on your own if possible.
We continue to manage this pandemic and continue to follow the latest recommendations provided by the State Department of Education and the DPH. We appreciate your patience as we gather the latest information in providing a safe and in-person school day for our students.
As always, if you have any questions please call the school or contact me directly at wnemec@ctreg14.org. We hope this New Year will bring us closer to what we remember as a normal educational experience.
Have a safe and healthy week,
