Participate in the PRIME Research Project
A team of our faculty and graduate students at the College of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics are conducting research about some health habits of UGA students. The survey will take no more than 10 minutes and asks simple questions about health and health behaviors among UGA students. The survey has been approved by UGA’s Institutional Review Board (PROJECT00001424) and does not collect personal identifying data.
If you are interested in helping out, please follow the link to the survey for more information.
Thank you in advance for your participation. Your help with this research will allow us to learn more about priority health issues at UGA.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Mini-Grants
Applicants are asked to formulate a community research project that addresses a public health problem confronted by underrepresented or otherwise marginalized/underserved members of the Athens-Clarke County community. The program, launched in Fall 2018 by the College’s Committee for Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity (CoDIE), allows students to not only make a impact in the local community, but gain experience in the grant proposal writing process. This includes identifying a problem or need, thinking through the logistics of research design, identifying and developing stakeholders in the community, and mapping out ways to implement research and outreach.
Project budgets can be up to $1,000. Proposals must be submitted by 11:59 PM on Friday, October 23, 2020.
Have additional questions? Please contact Anne Marie Zimiri. Read about previous mini-grant winners here.
Have General Questions about Grad School?
Get your general questions answered by scheduling a virtual 30 minute 1-on-1 meeting with Narke Norton during his office hours every Friday afternoon from 1:00 - 5:00 PM.
Narke is the Assistant Director of Recruitment in the Graduate School's Office of Recruitment and Diversity Initiatives.

AthensHelpWithCovid.com
Dear Friends and Classmates,
We recently launched AthensHelpWithCovid.com, an Athens-area partnership platform where UGA students and other Athens Residents can sign up for volunteer positions that have opened up due to the pandemic and ongoing economic crisis, providing essential support to the community at this time. The platform streamlines volunteer opportunities so that local non-profits and government can recruit and on-board volunteers quickly and efficiently. Some of the positions will be on-site, and some can be done remotely. As this situation continues to evolve, we anticipate that our community will need a lot of help from you in the coming months. Based on our conversations with local organizations, it is clear that they are looking for volunteers with a variety of skills—skills that you as students possess — in programming, engineering, management, communications, research and analysis, driving, food preparation, planning, mask making, and more.
Our platform intends to efficiently match supply and demand of talents. But our platform is only as successful as its users: the more users there are, the more effective the tool is for the community.
We hope that you will consider going to AthensHelpWithCovid.com and signing up as a volunteer.
If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact us at athenshelpwithcovid@gmail.com
Regards,
Joshua Beadles

Volunteer at the UGA Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament!
What: UGA Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament
When: November 14, 2020 from 8:30am to 5:00pm
Where: Virtually on scilympiad.com/uga
This competition allows hundreds of high school students from around the state to compete in a wide range of exams, building, and lab-based STEM events. Student volunteers are needed to proctor, write, and grade exams. No prior experience with Science Olympiad is required, and students of all majors are welcomed! Times for volunteering are flexible; it is not necessary to stay for the entire duration of the tournament. It is also a great way to get volunteer hours for other organizations!
If you are interested in grading or proctoring exams, you will need to make an account on scilympiad.com/uga. After creating your account, click the “Volunteer Opportunities” box under the Volunteer tab (located at the top right of the page). You will then need to click on the Invitational Event (green box), which will take you to where you can sign up for different shifts.
For volunteers who would like to help with writing exams, please sign up using the following link: bit.ly/ugasowriter. This is a super easy way to get involved and the exam directors for the events will assist you with any info or support you may need when writing!
Once you have signed up for one of the volunteer positions, plan to attend one of our Virtual Volunteer Orientation meetings on October 27th or 29th at 7pm. If you are unable to attend one of these meetings, please contact us at ugascienceolympiad@gmail.com.
Our Groupme for announcements and other information can be joined at bit.ly/ugasogroupme.
If you have any other questions, please send them to ugascienceolympiad@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you there!
