Christmas Cookies!
Our Virtue for the next two weeks is SELF-DISCIPLINE!
Self-discipline means self-control. It is getting yourself to do what you want to do, rather than being tossed around by your feelings like a leaf in the wind. You don't lose control of yourself when you feel hurt or angry, but decide how you are going to talk and what you are going to do. With self-discipline, you take charge of yourself.
Here are some questions to discuss with your child regarding self-discipline:
- What are some problems we might have it we didn't use self-discipline?
- What are some of the benefits of self-discipline?
- What does it feel like to lose control of our emotions?
- What is it most difficult to feel in control of our emotions?
- Name three things you can do to stay in charge of yourself when you feel angry.
Thanks for your support!
ELA (English Language Arts)
This week, we are wrapping up unit 2, week 2. We are going to focus on our DKG personal narrative stories. Our goal is to have our rough drafts and some writing done before break so we can focus on our illustrations and publishing when we get back. Make sure to ask your child what their story is about!
Science and Social Studies
We have begun our study of the continent of Europe! Each student will pick one European country to study. This is a great opportunity for families to discuss their ethnicities and traditions with their children.
We will be comparing cultures of America and the country of your child’s choice. Each student will be completing a culminating project of their choice that they will present to the class, and may need some help from you! Students may choose from the following:
Students will cook something from their country at home and bring it in to share with the class.
Students will learn a game or song from their country and teach it to us at school.
You pick! Be creative! We’ve had a number of students share fun family traditions with us here at school.
**Students may bring their project in any time next week to present!** Thank you for your support and please let us know if you have any questions!
