"Never again will you be capable of love, or friendship, or joy of living, or laughter, or curiosity, or courage, or integrity. You will be hallow. We shall squeeze you empty, and then we shall fill you with ourselves" (256). ~ Book 3, Ch.2

According to the book, 1984, The party controls the minds of the citizens throughout the entire novel. This quote shows how much power the party or "Big Brother" has over all the people. The citizens have many restrictions such as being watched on a telescreen at all times, and are not allowed to talk to others unless in a Newspeak way and are restricted of showing any affection to another individual. This causes the citizens to be stripped from their humanity. The parties goal is to get everyone to not be able to think at all and have thoughts or feelings. They want everyone to be equally the same and also to make the citizens feel dead inside.
