World Blood Donor Day - June 14
10th Anniversary
10th anniversary of World Blood Donor Day, will focus on the value of donated blood to the patient, not only in saving life, but also in helping people live longer and more productive lives.
Who can Donate?
If you are fit, healthy and aged between 16 and 70.
No illness such as flu or cold in last 7 days
You need to drink plenty of water and eat 3 hours before donating. You will not be able to donate if you are outside the age limits, have had a tattoo, are pregnant, low in iron or have a heart condition
Who does it help?
The majority of blood goes to people with cancer or serious illnesses. Other blood goes to accident victims.
How much blood do we need?
We need 27000 donations a week. Currently 1 in 3 need blood but only 1 in 30 donate. Half a million Australians donate blood.
