## Dear Parents,

I hope everyone is having a great three day weekend!

## Slow Down

How time flies! When I heard this song I immediately thought of my kiddos (loosely defined as "my students & birth children") and knew I had to share it with you. If you haven't heard it yet, make sure you have some tissues! Enjoy your little ones today!!

## Important Dates

& All library books due

May 23rd- Bad Weather Day (no school)

May 30th- Memorial Day (no school)

June 2nd- Last day of school (students need a sack lunch and a drink & early release 1:05pm)

## Spelling

No spelling words this week.

## Math

In Math, we will take our 4th quarter assessment on Wednesday, May 18th. This test will cover money, financial literacy, telling time, measurement, graphs, fractions (equal and unequal parts), addition and subtraction. Dove Whisper has great online games to review these skills: http://www.dovewhisper.com/1st_Grade/1st_Grade_Math.html

## Science

This week, we will have Watermelon Week. We will learn the life cycle of watermelons, parts of watermelon, and the origin of watermelons. We will also have taste testing and graph the results. We will predict how many rubber bands will cut a watermelon. We will observe the force that the rubber bands have on the watermelon.

## Calling all Folders

As the near ends we have been encouraged to make these last weeks count! Though summer is just around the corner, we will continue to have a phonics reader this week and next; but would like all the reading folders to start coming in so I can start organizing them.

Thank you for all your support this year. We will no longer have math homework, but there are great educational apps and websites to continue practicing skills. I love abcya.com, dovewhisper.com, and oswego.org because they are free and cover the basics plus more!

## Differentiated Learning

Below is a great link for quick videos to guide you and your child through projects that cover art, creativity, reading, writing, and math.

## Thank you,

Have a great day!
