The 2020 Torch Awards for Ethics Scholarship Winners
3rd Place - Lucia Rivera
How Ethics was put to the Test as a Student Journalist
"As the co-Editor-in-Chief of a high school newspaper in a district filled with challenges, I am very aware of the importance of ethics and integrity in my community. In fact, on the first day of class this academic year, we implemented an honor code and discussed journalistic ethics so that my 22-member staff understood the gravity of our ethical code, both as students and journalists."
Congratulations!
It is with great pleasure to announce that we have two seniors who recently won scholarships.
Grace Rivera was selected as the Chula Vista Elks Lodge Teen of the Month for October. She was recognized for her excellence and commitment to academics, leadership and community service and won a $500 scholarship.
Our other awardee is Lucia Rivera who was named 3rd Runner Up for the Better Business Bureau Ethical Torch Essay Scholarship. Lucia won a $1,000 scholarship for her essay on "The importance of ethics and integrity in our community".

Need Help? Free Virtual Tutoring Available!!
Tutors 4 SD is a nonprofit organization run by college students to provide free, one-on-one virtual tutoring to middle and high school students in San Diego in addition to sending school supplies to students in need. They have over 80 tutors ready to tutor students in any subject and every student has had past tutoring experience or short training on proper teaching methods. To ensure our students are properly providing services, we have educators from various schools providing guidance on proper tutoring methods.

I want to emphasize that our tutors are here to help and are not expecting compensation at all. We just want to help students by providing educational support. We are working with students in districts like Poway Unified School District and Alpine Union School District (which we are partnered with) already with success, so we want to help as many students as the number of tutors available increases. We have been working with agencies like the San Diego County Office of Education to help reach more students as well.
Welcome to BVTV
We are looking forward to our amazing BVTV crew this year and their Baron news. Stay tuned for upcoming information on broadcasts start date. Our BVTV students are excited to start the school year and will be working very hard to bring you the best Baron News. Stay tuned!

Dear Friends,
I hope you are in good health and good spirits. I know that the life of none of us has been the same since COVID19. Some may have taken the opportunity to resume a favorite hobby. I am writing again in my diary. It gives me pleasure.
Everyone in the organization has been very busy since the start of the pandemic. We have served more than three hundred people by phone in different areas of food, health insurance, unemployment, or referring them to other services such as mental health and additional pantry resources. Also, we continuously update resources and answer general questions on our social . networks such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
We would appreciate considering donating to the Bonita Family Resource Center to continue serving the communities in San Diego and Imperial Valley. Please give today.
Visit our website www.bonitafrc.org to make a donation.

Querido amigos(as),
Te agradeceriamos visitar nuestra pagina web www.bonitafrc.org y hacer tu donativo hoy.
Sinceramente,
Alma Robles-Duran
