A Note from our Principal
Dear Thunderbird Families,
I hope you all are doing well amidst the uncertainty we have been facing these past ten months. I realize these times have been difficult for students and families. We know it has been challenging to do school in a completely new way. If your home is anything like mine, there are virtual meetings happening all the time and you're competing for zoom air space without interference or looking for peace and quiet for your calls.
As you know, we all need to continue to care for ourselves. I hope you all have opportunities to get outside and enjoy nature. We are so lucky to live in the Bay Area where there is easy access to trails for hiking/walking. I find getting near the ocean or taking a walk in the woods really helps my outlook and I'm inspired by the scenic landscapes that surround us.
Our staff - I continue to be awed by our exceptional staff, who work hard to make sure our students are learning. In particular, our teachers have been going above and beyond to support our students in these unusual times. Your encouragement and appreciation of teachers does not go unnoticed! As I go into classrooms, I am happy to see our students making the best of it and our teachers connecting with them and their families. Go Thunderbirds!!!
Librarian Marie Fox
No school is complete without a good librarian and library! I want to highlight our amazing librarian, Mrs. Fox, who has single handedly updated our library with books that are current and reflective of all of our students. Mrs. Fox does an incredible job of getting our students excited about books! Check out the Thornhill Library, as well as the Oakland Public Library!
Remaining Reopening Family Info Sessions
If you have not yet attended an info session, click here to learn more about upcoming sessions or watch video recordings of past events. More than 4,000 staff and community members have attended a session so far.
Mr. Daubenspeck

News from the Library
The rollout of Sora, our new e-book and audiobook app, has been so exciting! The collection is expanding every day as OUSD librarians purchase more titles we know the students will be excited about. Students can now connect to the Oakland Public Library for an even larger collection, all through Clever! Please reach out to marie.fox@ousd.org with any questions.
The Annual Spring Read-a-thon will be happening again soon! For three weeks (March 15 -April 2), Thornhill will focus on reading as a community, and raise some funds to support the PFC in the process. More details to come soon - stay tuned!

About the Thornhill Newsletter
The Thornhill Parent-Faculty Club (PFC) eNews team publishes this weekly newsletter each Tuesday in the school year to communicate school, PFC and OUSD news, events and information.
Email submissions to our Newsletter Chair, Jill Evans, at newsletter@thornhillschool.org by 8 p.m. Thursday for approval—nothing sent after this will be included in the following week’s newsletter unless there are extremely compelling extenuating circumstances. It’s fine to include text in the body of the email with links and no formatting, and attach photos preferably as 150 x 150, 72 dpi JPG or GIFs only (not embedded in email or Word file). Submissions may be edited for spelling, grammar, brevity and clarity. Advertising and items not related to Thornhill are not accepted, as we need to keep the newsletter focused on need-to-know info for the community.
THANK YOU to everyone who submits articles and to PFC Board Members, Teachers, VPs of Communications Erin Proudfoot & Evie Nagy, PFC Presidents Rex Crum & Alicia Streight, and Principal Steve Daubenspeck. Member of Oakland Unified School District (OUSD).
