Latest Update for Valley Catholic High School Athletics
OSAA Season 4 - Winter Sports Guidance Update
May 24, 2021
Dear Valley Catholic Winter Sports Families –
On May 19th, new guidance for indoor athletic events was issued by the OHA and adopted as practice by the OSAA. We will continue to follow guidance and guidelines provided to ensure opportunities for our students to safely compete.
In order to allow for limited spectators at our home and away events (TWO guests per rostered athlete for basketball games), the following guidelines will be followed with zero exceptions during OSAA Season 4 and under current OSAA guidelines:
- All spectators will be required to be on a “guest” list submitted by their respective coaching staff prior to all contests and answer screening questions upon entrance to the venue.
- All spectators NOT fully vaccinated, will be required to wear a fitted face covering/mask that covers both the mouth and nose.
- “Fully vaccinated individual” means an individual has received both does of a two-dose vaccine or one dose of a single-dose vaccine and at least 14 days have passed since the individual’s final dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
- Any spectator that is fully vaccinated will not be required to wear a face covering and will be issued a wristband upon entrance after providing proof of vaccination. Per OHA, “Proof of vaccination status” means documentation provided by a tribal, federal, state or local government, or a health care provider, that includes an individual’s name, date of birth, type of COVID-19 vaccination given, date or dates given, depending on whether it is a one-dose or two-dose vaccine, and the name/location of the health care provider or site where the vaccine was administered. Documentation may include, but is not limited to, Covid-19 vaccination record card, or a copy or digital picture of the vaccination record card.
- Spectators granted access will be required to sit in designated areas and observe physical distancing.
- In the event of multiple competitions at a single location, all spectators will be required to clear the venue between competitions.
- Spectators that are not granted access will be asked to leave the premises.
- Spectators that refuse to follow guidelines run the risk of having the competition stopped or cancelled and potentially being trespassed from venues.
Student-athletes that are “fully vaccinated” as defined above, and wish to not wear a mask during competition must follow the OHA’s proof of vaccination status as defined above.
The OSAA memo on updated indoor face mask guidance can be found here: https://www.osaa.org/docs/osaainfo/May19Release.pdf
At this time aquatic centers are not allowing guests at any of the high school swim meets. If this changes our Head Swimming Coach will let families know.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to monitor and adjust to the evolving guidelines issued by our governing agencies. And thank you in advance for your cooperation as we continue to move through this challenging time and finish the year on a positive note.
Sincerely,
Joel Sobotka
Athletic Director

PictureThisPDX and VC Athletics!
We are incredibly grateful to Ryan Hoppes with @picturethispdx. Ryan is a VCMS parent and volunteers his time taking amazing photos at our VC Athletic events!
Ryan’s model is to donate his time shooting pictures at the games and then encourages donations to nonprofits, in this case, donations will support VC Athletics!
How it works:
- PictureThisPDX will attend as many VCHS athletic events as possible.
- Families are asked to make a donation in gratitude via venmo @ssmofoundation. Add a note that the donation is for PictureThisPDX so the donation is directed to VC athletics.

The physicals must be completed on the OSAA-sanctioned form and on file in the Valley Catholic High School Athletic Office prior to the first day of any team practice, including Season One actvities.
The required OSAA form, which must be used to complete the sports physical, can be found here http://www.osaa.org/docs/forms/PhysicalExamination-English2017.pdf
