Spring Healthy Futures Challenge Begins

Monday, Feb. 1st, 8am

This is an online event.

K-8th graders, start logging your physical activity to earn a fun compass/light key chain at the end of the month. The requirement is at least 60 minutes of physical activity for at least 15 days during the month. Logs are due to be turned in to Holly by March 1. Click here to get your own log. Play every day!

Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) Meeting

Tuesday, Feb. 2nd, 2-3pm

Parents, please join us at the Raven office for our monthly PAC meeting. This will be a program-wide video conference with our director Andrea Cottrell. We will be discussing AMP testing and spring activities, and would love to get your input and help with planning/preparation.

FAFSA Workshop at TMHS

Seniors, we encourage you to attend the College Goal Alaska event going on at Thunder Mountain High School sponsored by UAS and ACPE. There will be advisors there to help you with applying for financial aid and completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For more info, call 796-6257. Newspaper Tour

Library Program "The Science of Sled Dogs"

Friday, Feb. 5th, 10:30-11:30am

3025 Riverside Drive

Juneau, AK

Join us at the Valley Library for a presentation by Denali National Park and Preserve, host to the US government's only dog-sled team. It can be hard to get there, but we can bring Denali to us instead! Denali’s staff will teach us about Denali's amazing natural resources using interactive lessons and activities including an overview of the park, introduction to “Chinook” a Denali sled dog, and learning about the adaptations of sled dogs. This is a great way to get prepared for the Iditarod and IditaRead next month. RSVP to juneau@yksd.com.

Valentines Craft Fair

Last day to make changes to ILP & Computer Purchase Deadline

If you need to add/drop anything from your student’s ILP or if you want to get a computer through our Computer Purchase Program this school year, this is the deadline for both of those items.

Art Activity "Eric Carle Mural" - grades K-5

Tuesday, Feb. 16th, 12:30-1:30pm

Juneau, AK

After sharing the book Where are You Going? To See my Friend, students in grades K-5 will discuss real and abstract artwork. They will learn how to use texture rubbings to create torn paper animals and people. Students then assemble a collaborative work of art displaying characters from the book. RSVP to juneau@yksd.com.

UAS Job Fair

High School students, meet with prospective employers at the UAS Lakeside Grill (Mourant Cafeteria). To be prepared, be sure to bring copies of your resume, dress to impress, and be prepared to be interviewed. Job Fairs are great places to network for future jobs.

"Skating with the Schools" at Treadwell Ice Rink

Wednesday, Feb. 17th, 11am-12pm

105 Savikko Road

AK

Join us at the Treadwell Ice Rink for a great time of open skating for everyone. As a school group we get an excellent rate to rent the whole rink and can have up to 50 participants, so let’s make this a fun-filled activity with many families joining in. Please RSVP to juneau@yksd.com.

Art Activity "Olanna's Paper Sculptures" - grades 6-12

Tuesday, Feb. 23rd, 12:30-1:30pm

8391 Airport Boulevard

Juneau, AK

Students in grades 6-12 will learn about the Alaskan Native artist Melvin Olanna. His stylized sculptures reflect his Inupiaq culture. Students will create simple animal shapes from paper, using a paper scoring technique to make them look 3D. Paper sculptures are mounted on a background based on an Alaskan landscape. Girls' Tea

Wednesday, Feb. 24th, 10-11am

What girl doesn’t love a tea party?! Moms and daughters are invited to get dressed up and join us at the office for a fun party with tea and light snacks. Bring your favorite type of tea or cookie to share and we will have a grand time together. RSVP to juneau@yksd.com.

AKCIS Webinar "Education - Planning & Funding" - grades 9-12

Thursday, Feb. 25th, 10-11am

Juneau, AK

During a live WebEx presentation, students will use the online tools on the AKCIS website to learn about how to plan for their education and where they can find funding. This is an excellent opportunity for high school students and can even be participated in from home. Contact tmiller@yksd.com for more details.

IditaREAD Kickoff
