Aids Awareness Club

AIDS Awareness is a club at Oceanside High School whose purpose is to become knowledgeable on the topic of HIV/AIDS and to educate their peers about it. The presidents of the club are Shannon Citarella and Alec Rovensky. They have shown great leadership and motivation in their roles as presidents and are eager to have a successful year with the club. They have recruited many new members who are excited to be part of the club.

In November, all the members of the club go through a training with LIAAC (Long Island Association for Aids Care). During this training, the students learned all the current facts that they need to know about HIV and AIDS. Their training helps to assist them in presenting to all of the high school health classes and the 6th grade students at all the elementary schools. The club officers also present on Human Relations Day. We are excited for all our presentations and look forward to another successful year.

Student Activities

Message from Pat Turk...

Happy New Year Oceanside! We are more than excited for a jam packed second semester. Student Activities has its eyes set on Sportsnight, Battle of the Bands, and more this spring. We hope to continue the success of this year’s Battle of the Classes.

We’d like to congratulate the Class of 2016 on their second victory. We have never met a more dedicated and spirited class. They won Battle of the Classes as Juniors and again as seniors.

On January 9th, the gymnasium was roaring not just for the Seniors, but for all classes. The freshman had an inspiring start to their battle careers as they mirrored the skills and determination of their upperclassmen. The sophomore class was happy to know that they were no longer the rookies this year and even managed an upset 2nd place finish. The junior class gave it all they had and went toe to toe with the seniors; but it was the class of 2016 that snagged the win.

Our long anticipated Hungry Hungry Hippos parent event rocked the house showing parents and children working together for their classes. All of the students wanted to see a teacher round of Hungry Hungry Hippo.

Please continue to encourage students to sign up for Sport Night. Battle of the Bands is just around the corner and don’t forget to check out the scroll feed on OHS main page for Battle highlights.
