Winchester PTA - JES Updates

The Winchester PTA - JES (Junior Enrichment Series) Committee is excited to share that students in Kindergarten, 1st and 5th grade had animal visitors from the Science Alive! program visiting their classrooms on Tuesday, Feb 4th and 2nd grade the morning of Wednesday, Feb 5th.

The goal of these presentations

  • To incorporate living organisms into an educational, hands-on learning situation.

  • To stimulate the students' interest in science and to encourage them to investigate the world using scientific discipline.

  • To foster an appreciation for the diversity of the biological world.

Thank you to our teachers and Winchester staff in assisting us in the scheduling process. And a big thank you for your donations to the Winchester PTA to fund incredible programs like this for our students. Donate here!

The Winchester PTA - JES (Junior Enrichment Series) Committee is also excited to share that the 3rd Graders had a presentation from Kensington Nature Center on Thursday, January 30th. THE FRENCH VOYAGEURS & THE FUR TRADE was presented inline with their social studies curriculum. They were able to "join" a French Voyageur to learn about the trade and interactions between the French and the Native American here in Michigan. Through artifacts and replicas, students will experience life at a 1700s era trading post. Ask your 3rd grader all about it!!

Thank you to the 3rd grade teachers and Winchester staff in assisting us in the scheduling process for this favorite presentation. A big thank you for your donations to the Winchester PTA to fund incredible programs like this for our students. Donate here!

Northville Public Schools’ March 2020 Sinking Fund Millage Replacement ~ Community Forums/PTA meetings

School families and community members can learn more...

On March 10, 2020, voters in Northville Public Schools will be asked to consider replacing our current Sinking Fund millage with a new Sinking Fund millage that will extend the current .9519-mill levy from 2021 to 2025 and provide for broader uses of the proceeds, including instructional technology and security equipment. The current levy expires on Dec. 31, 2020. The .9519-mill five-year request is a REPLACEMENT of the existing sinking fund millage and would NOT result in an increase over the current millage rate.

If supported, the sinking fund millage will continue to provide approximately $3 million each year to fund building and site repairs, along with instructional technology and safety and security upgrades. This funding helps protect the community’s investment in the School District’s buildings and sites, while preserving General Fund dollars to accomplish the District’s core mission of instruction and student learning. Priority projects for the next five-year period fall into the categories of Instructional Technology & Security, Energy & Operational Efficiency, and Health & Safety.

Northville Public Schools families, staff and community members have the opportunity to learn more about the March 2020 Sinking Fund Millage Replacement request at a series of forums hosted by district leaders, including a number of opportunities scheduled in conjunction with school PTA/PTSA meetings in January and February, as follows:

Big picture

The purpose of each forum is to provide parents, staff and community members with information about the sinking fund replacement millage proposal through a brief presentation (10-15 minutes), followed by an opportunity to ask questions about the proposal. Parents, staff and/or community members are invited to attend whichever forum is most convenient.

Community members are also encouraged to learn more about the millage election by visiting the District’s website at Questions and/or comments may also be e-mailed to
