October Events

Hispanic Heritage Month - September 15 - October 15

When looking for instructional materials to support events such as Hispanic Heritage Month, don't forget about the resources you probably already have access to, such as Discovery Education and TexQuest Resources. Discovery Education has a channel called "Celebrating Hispanic Heritage" that includes videos, reading passages, and ready-to-use instructional activities.

Digital Citizenship Week - October 18-22, 2021

Although digital citizenship should be an ongoing conversation, October 18-22, 2021, provides an opportunity to do a deep dive with students! Don't forget to include students in the conversation and hear their thoughts about ways to practice good digital citizenship.

Here are some resources that might be helpful.

Professional Learning Opportunities

TexQuest Learning Series

For the next several months, we will be providing sessions focused on the various TexQuest resources. Please share these opportunities with anyone on your campus, from teachers to instructional technologists, as we are looking for ways to get TexQuest out of the library. Register today to save your spot.

Additional Learning Opportunities

#ESC11Librarians are doing AWESOME Things!

Don't forget to share the awesome things you are doing in the library and your community. Remember to tag #esc11librarians so we can all learn from and celebrate with each other. Also, remember to promote your library program on the first day of each month for the #TxASL "Did You Know School Libraries..." monthly Twitter share.

Discovery Education

Discovery Education Experience - New Features to Engage Students!

If your district has Discovery Education Experience (DEX), you will want to check out all of the new enhancements, including:
  • New quiz tools
  • Exclusive content
  • Ready-to-use activities

These enhancements will give teachers more and better ways to engage students and incorporate rich media into the learning experiences they design and deliver every day.

We are offering a number of Discovery Education sessions during September and October. Many of these sessions will be recorded and sent to all who register.

Discovery Education Professional Learning Opportunities

If you need more information about the new DEX -- or if your library team needs a refresher, email sford@esc11.net and we can set up a session!

DE Chats

We will meet (almost) monthly to share ideas, look at new features, and get updates on all things Discovery Education! Technology Resources Education Consortium

In addition to serving librarians in Region 11, our service center also manages a state-wide consortium for Destiny Library and Resource Manager. Through a partnership with Follett, we host services for more than 140 districts across the state. Benefits for our members include hosted services, ongoing training and support, access to an eBook catalog, and more.

Many of our Region 11 districts are already TREC members, but if your district is not and you are interested in learning more about TREC, you can take a look at the TREC website. If you have questions or would like a cost estimate of joining TREC, email sford@esc11.net.
