We hope you are staying safe and warm in this cold, rainy weather! It was wonderful for our teachers to connect with so many parents to discuss student learning progress and goals. Thank you for join us during Parent Teacher Conferences last week! Also, many thanks to the PTA for providing our staff with a delicious dinner from Burger Baron on Thursday evening. We greatly appreciated this special meal to fuel and energize us through the evening conferences. We look forward to the Halloween parade and festivities that will be taking place this Friday at Dryden!

At Dryden, we FLIP for good choices! The Dryden staff is on the lookout for students going above and beyond in big and small ways to make a positive impact on their school community. These Dolphin sightings are recognized during the morning announcements on Fridays. The students above were recognized for showing persistence, helping others, and taking care of their school environment. Stay tuned for weekly updates on these awesome Dolphin sightings and Friday Flips!

Halloween Celebration, October 29

The district food service will only be offering one lunch entree for the day - the yogurt kit. There will not be a hot entree choice.


Please complete the form below if your child will go home for lunch on October 29 and/or if your child will not be participating in the classroom celebration.

Veterans Day, November 11

CogATs, October 25 - November 10

Students in third and fifth grade will be participating in the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) between October 25 and November 10. 4th grade students who are new to the district or were not tested last year will also be assessed. Classroom teachers will inform parents of specific testing dates and times. The CogAT is a district-administered assessment used as part of the advanced program placement process. The CogAT measures learned reasoning and problem-solving skills in the verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal areas.

IAR Reports, October 25

The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) is the state assessment and accountability measure for Illinois students enrolled in a public school district. IAR assesses the Illinois Learning Standards Incorporating the Common Core and are administered to students in English Language Arts and Mathematics in grades three through eight. Current fourth and fifth grade students who participated in IAR testing at Dryden in the spring will bring home their IAR reports via backpack mail on Monday, October 25.

Vision & Hearing Screenings

Vision and hearing screenings are underway at Dryden. Vision screenings are required for students in kindergarten through third grade. Hearing screenings are required for students in kindergarten and second grade. Please contact our school nurses Mrs. Rixon at mrixon@sd25.org or Mrs. Evans at mevans@sd25.org if you have any questions. Thank you.

Chess Club

Chess Club will take place during lunch recess on Thursdays in November (11/4, 11/11, and 11/18) in the LMC. First and second grade students will use No Stress Chess sets to learn how the game works with LMC Teacher Mrs. Kovacic. They will eat lunch first then come to play chess for 40 minutes

Third, fourth and fifth grade students will play with regular chess sets and work with PTA Volunteer Mr. Niro. They will come to play chess for 40 minutes and then eat in the lunchroom.


Parent volunteers are welcome. There is a place to sign up at the end of the student sign-up below. The school district requires weekly parent volunteers to provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination or weekly negative Covid-19 test results.

Reflections Art Program

Do you have a little Matisse at home? Or perhaps an aspiring poet or dancer? If your child is looking for a creative outlet, get them started on artwork for this year’s Reflections Art Program themed, “I Will Change The World By….”.


Dryden PTA will be accepting submissions through November 4 for the National PTA Reflections Art Program in the following categories: visual arts, photography, literature, music composition, dance choreography and film production. Student winners have the opportunity to advance through local, regional, state and national levels.
