Arbor Day Parade - April 30th
The Otoe County 4-H Council will be in the Arbor Day Parade in Nebraska City! If you are interested in walking with our display of our Senior Banners, wear an Otoe County 4-H Shirt and meet us at the Bethel Church in Nebraska City at noon. The Parade starts at 1:00, and we will be walking along side the trailer, throwing out candy. Eat lunch before you come and be ready to walk!!
Public Speaking & Presentation Contest Results
The Otoe County 4-H Public Speaking and Presentation Contest was Sunday, April 24 at the Kimmel Event Center in Syracuse. There were 21 Otoe County 4-H members who participated in this event. The 4-H Public Speaking and Presentation Contest helps youth develop skills for communicating about current issues to real audiences, learn how to organize and prepare a speech, develop speech delivery skills, learn how to present themselves to others, and develop self-confidence.
Clover Kids participating were: Rachel and Sarah Schropfer, Rylee Steinhoff, Henry Stubbendick, Adilynn Walker, Brysant Whitney, Eli Wood, Elsie Wood, and Michael Wood. Each Clover Kid presented the Pledge of Allegiance, the 4-H Pledge, or both.
In the Junior Division, the Champion was Jayden Walker and the Reserve Champion was Amber Schropfer, with both receiving purple ribbons.
In the Intermediate Division, the Champion was Maci Smidt, while Diego Velazco was the Reserve Champion. They each earned a purple ribbon as well as Abigail Bennie. All three earned a spot to represent Otoe County at the State Speech Contest.
The Senior Division Champion was Daisa Smidt. She received a purple ribbon and will move on to the State Speech Contest.
Madison Stubbendick of Syracuse was the Champion Junior Illustrated Presentation and also earned a purple ribbon.
In the Junior PSA Division, the Champion was Shawnee Ensor. She received a purple ribbon.
In the Intermediate PSA Division, the Champion was Marcus Ensor, earning a purple ribbon and will move on the state contest. Czandrya Morgan earned a blue.
In the Senior PSA Division, the Champion was Jacob Wood, earning a purple ribbon and will move on the state contest. Mavryc Morgan earned a blue.
Those qualifying for the state competition will compete again on June 24 in Lincoln. Congratulations to all of those who participated!
Otoe County Progressive Agriculture Farm Saftey Day
Registration is now open for the 2022 Otoe County Progressive Agriculture Farm Safety Day camp! This years event will be held on Wednesday, June 8th at Kimmel Event Center in SYRACUSE. Registration begins at 7:45 am with day beginning at 8:15 am and wrapping up at 2:15 pm. All Otoe County youth entering 1st - 5th grade this fall are invited to attend.

PASE Contest Practices - May 4th
Anyone interested in participating in Livestock Judging, Poultry Judging, Livestock Quiz Bowl, Meats Judging or Livestock Skill-a-Thon, practice will be Wednesday, May 4th at 6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. YQCA In-Person Training
The next in-person YQCA training will be on Friday, May 27 at the Extension Office from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Register at yqcaprogram.org.

Donation Drive for the Capital Humane Society in Lincoln
We will be taking a Care package to the Capital Humane Society on June 1st as part of our Dog Day Afternoon workshop. Capital Humane Society receives thousands of homeless animals each year. Many of those animals play with, sleep upon or are groomed with donated items. We greatly appreciate the gifts given to the shelter to help us care for the animals.

Name that Tree Workshop - Thursday, May 26th
Expand your knowledge and complete a Forestry project for this years county fair. 1:00 to 4:00 at the Lewis and Clark Center in Nebraska City. Call the Extension office to register for this fun nature opportunity. (10 and up please) $5 for materials.

Nebraska Dog Shows & Trials in May, June & July
You are invited by all of the dog clubs to attend one or more of the upcoming shows, trials, fun matches as an observer, participant or helper. Take advantage of the 4-H members free AKC registration for your dog. Use the special form and register your dog and register as an AKC Junior to take advantage of the reduced entry fees.
- April 29, 30 & May 1: Agility AKC – Go Dogs at Omaha Sports Complex, 14706 Giles Road, Omaha, Ne. Friday 9 a.m. start, Saturday/Sunday 8 a.m. start. Entries close 4/15/2022.
- May 7 & 8: Conformation, Obedience, Rally, FCAT, Junior Showmanship and special Pee Wee showmanship (Free entry fee for 5-9 years old, limited to 12), at Seward, Nebraska. Junior Showmanship has reduced entry fee. Entries closed April 20. Day of show entries include: a) Obedience show & go, b) a free handling clinic is offered Friday at 7 p.m. c) CGC test Friday from 5 - 7 p.m. (fees), d) Pee Wee showmanship. - May 6, 7 & 8: Seward, Nebraska: FCAT is a 100 yard dash for dogs. The dog chases a “bunny/plastic bag” on a lure line. The dog is contained in a 100 yard long fenced area. Two handlers are required- one to release the dog, and one to catch it. Titles are earned based on points calculated from run time. FCAT rules are on the AKC website. - May 21 & 22: Conformation, Obedience, Rally and Junior Showmanship - Platte Valley Kennel Club and Nebraska Kennel Club at Lancaster Event Center, Lincoln, NE. Entries close May 4th at noon. Junior Showmanship entry fee is only $5. Your dog must be registered with AKC and you must have an AKC Junior number. The premium is at http://www.onofrio.com/plist/xneb1pl.pdf. The show committee invites you to talk with the Junior Showmanship judge and ask questions after the Juniors Judging.

Otoe County 4-H Foundation Scholarship adds UNL Livestock Judging Camp to List
The Otoe County 4-H Foundation has approved to reimburse 50% of the registration fee for Otoe County 4-H'ers attending the Winners Unlimited UNL Livestock Judging Camp. The camp will be held June 8 - 10. The cost is $300. Register for this camp at go.unl.edu/judging-camp. After attending the camp, receipts can be submitted to the Foundation for reimbursement.
Vincent and Marie Kreifels Annual Beef and Consumer Science Awards
Juniors in High School are eligible for these generous awards. Youth must have been enrolled and active in 4-H the previous 3 calendar years, exhibited a beef or consumer science project at the Otoe County Fair in 2 or more of the last 4 years, must currently be enrolled in those same 4-H projects for this year. Details will be mailed to all members who qualify. Applications need to be returned to the Extension Office by Friday, July 1st.

The Nebraska State Fair is the premier opportunity for 4-H members to showcase what they have learned and worked on throughout the year. At the State Fair, we celebrate the successes of thousands of youth who have learned and grown through 4-H. The State Fair is a prime opportunity for 4-H members to cultivate skills they have learned in 4-H projects, put their life skills and good character to work, discover new areas of interest, and meet new people. The Nebraska State Fair is held each year at the Nebraska State Fairgrounds in Grand Island, Nebraska. This year's event will be held August 26 - September 5, 2022.
