Blueberries
Looking for a special dessert to enjoy at your July 4th celebration? You can't go wrong with this blueberry buckle from Spend with Pennies. Comfortingly old-fashioned while also being fresh and delicious, it is sure to be a crowd-pleaser!
Strawberry Jalapeno Pepper Jam
In your share this week is a jar of one of our seasonal specialties - Strawberry Jalapeno Jungle Jam. This was just made in June using a combination of our own berries and Huffman Farm's berries. Our pepper jams can be used in so many ways, from cream cheese & crackers, to filling for cookies (for which our President, Kitty Kromer, has won an award!), to spicing up some toast for breakfast, or even topping a big bowl of vanilla ice cream! Below is a link to Pappy's Gourmet with a whole slew of pepper jelly (jam works just as well...or maybe even better!) recipes and ideas for you to try. Jungle Jam can add a special kick to your 4th of July table!
Parsley
If you are intimidated at the thought of making your own pesto pasta dish, the recipe below is a tasty introduction. Budget Bytes came up with an easy, cost-effective dish that is still full of flavor.
Celebrate the Sunny Days!
This season's many rainy, cool days have gotten growing off to a slow start. Farmers here in NE Ohio, including Goodness Grows, as well as farmers across the country have been forced to plant late, re-plant flooded areas, and re-think crop plans. As a result, some produce items won't be available until later in the season than usual and some crops will yield less. But, do not fear! Even in a year that isn't full of monsoon-like weather, CSA programs start out lighter and increase as the summer moves along. The recent nice days have helped dry out water-logged areas and given us a chance to do some transplanting. We are excitedly watching onions, peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, and much more growing well. We will continue to work with local farms, like Huffman's and Horst, to supplement our own produce until we are able to fill the shares with exclusively GG crops.
As we said in last week's newsletter, thank you for trusting us and joining with us in sharing
the costs, risks, and bounty of a local food program. We will continue to work hard and to
strive to be worthy of your support. Remember, we welcome questions or comments, so
feel free to contact us anytime you have a concern or an idea to share. We are always glad
to hear from you!
