Perry Hall Pathways
To PHHS Freshmen and Sophomores from the College Counselor
Time is Flying!
What Should I Be Doing Now?
-Visit colleges. You can schedule visits to schools by going to their websites and clicking on their "visit" link. Many schools hold weekly visitations as well as general Open Houses. Don't worry that you don't have a clue what you want to study in college or where you want to go. Simply visit different types of schools to get an idea of what you want and don't want in a college. It is better to visit colleges while they are in session rather than waiting till the summer. You want to get a feel for what the campus and school is like while the students are present. Look below for some local open houses.
-Try a new club for the second half of the year or check out the service learning bulletin board for ideas on community service. You don't want to wait until your senior year to be active in your school and community. Colleges will ask and want to see what you have been involved in over the course of all 4 years of high school.
-You will be receiving your PSAT scores within the next month in your English class, along with some information on how to read them. If you are disappointed in your score, remember, this is a preliminary test that often has information on it that you haven't even been taught yet! Think of it as a sneak preview into what colleges expect you to know. Colleges will never ask to see your PSAT scores.
-Start thinking about your summer plans and what you want to get involved in. There are a ton of camps and activities in our area that are being planned now. Check out some ideas below.
