Message from Mr. Hanzeli
Hello Elger Bay Families!
Special Announcements
Janet Peterson and Dana Anderson have been two very important parts of our school and district, positively impacting the lives of thousands of children for many years. Each of them have reached the point where they are going to retire from working in our schools. Of course we are filled with mixed feelings, sadness for us, and excitement for them. If you have a moment, please share with them your gratitude for caring about every child and nurturing our students and families as they have made way through our schools. Congratulations Janet! Congratulations Dana!

Welcome Dr. Rumbaugh (Repeated)
If you have read the Friday District Newsletter, you may already know this, but we are very pleased and excited to have learned this past week that Dr. Deborah Rumbaugh will be the new SCSD Superintendent. Here at Elger Bay we are very excited to meet with her, welcome her, and let her discover the great community that is Elger Bay :-) Her first official day in district will be July 1.
Chromebooks, Chargers, School Textbooks (Repeated)
As we slowly approach these last few weeks of the school year I am wondering if you can do our school a favor? We know it has been hectic with many items going back and forth between home and school, particularly the student chromebooks, chargers, and school textbooks.
Return date for these items will be Friday, June 11 for the BB Hybrid group and Monday, June 14, for the AA Hybrid group.
If you could please take a bit of extra time between now and then to look around for any of these that may be currently located at your home. Thank you for taking a few minutes to do this. Hopefully this will help make it an easier process come the two June return dates.
Optional Student Placement Forms (Repeated) Due Friday, 4:00
Reminder that you have the option to complete the parent placement form for next year, even though there are many variables that are still not finalized. I will hold these forms through the summer and we will do the very best we can as a team to build great classes for 2021-2022.

Good Afternoon, Families and Staff,
Vaccine News:
The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine was approved by the federal government on May 12, 2021 for children age 12 and up. The same day, the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup approved the Pfizer vaccine for expanded use in Washington State. The Washington State Department of Health and the Stanwood Camano School District recommend that eligible children get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible, so they can return to normal activities such as in-person learning, sports, and visiting friends. The following links may be helpful in making a decision regarding vaccination for your student:

Camano Island Fire and Rescue is conducting a popup Covid Vaccine clinic, offering both Pfizer (12 and older) and Johnson and Johnson vaccines. The clinic will be located at Terry's Corner (848 N Sunrise, Camano Island 98282) on Friday, May 21, from 3pm to 7pm. They will allow walk ups, but would prefer pre-registration. Those who walk up will still have to complete the online registration (there will be computers available). Legal guardians have to be present for anyone under 18 to receive a vaccine. Here is the link to sign up:

COVID Testing Options
The district is expanding COVID testing to include families/household members of students or staff in our school community. There will be no charge for COVID testing, and we ask that individuals wanting a test request an appointment by emailing SCSDcovidtesting@stanwood.wednet.edu. Results of these tests will be available in 25 minutes via a texted PDF, which can be printed as proof of negative results.
COVID Regulations
Stanwood-Camano School District is continuing to adhere to the state’s requirement that face coverings be worn by all individuals while in our schools and on our campuses.
On May 13, the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control and Governor Jay Inslee announced that people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 no longer need to wear face coverings or physically distance — whether indoors or outdoors in most circumstances. Governor Inslee also noted that businesses can still require employees and customers to wear face coverings regardless of their vaccination status.
Although face coverings are no longer required in most places in the state for people who are fully vaccinated, state exceptions include schools, hospitals, long-term care homes, medical offices, jails and prisons, and homeless shelters. In addition, a federal order requiring masks on public transportation remains in effect.
A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving a second dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks after the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine.
