A Message from your Principal ~
The Iowa School Performance Profiles for 2019 have been released from the Iowa Department of Education. They measure our performance on the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (formally Iowa Assessments) for percent proficient and student growth in Reading, English, Writing, and Math. It also includes Graduation Rates, Growth of English Language Learners, Conditions of Learning Survey, Participation, and Post-Secondary Readiness. We have one more year of Targeted Status, for the lack of growth of students with disabilities (IEP) in Math and English Language Arts. East High Schools overall performance was Acceptable. The students will be taking the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress the last week in April, this year. Students must be Proficient in their Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) in order to enroll in most dual credit courses.
Seniors, if you have not taken Health or Individual and Families, you must take CPR training during homeroom in order to meet the state graduation requirements. Please see Ms. Van Peursem or Mr. Lara. They will also offer CPR Sessions on April 21 in the morning, and afternoon for any senior who has not completed CPR. This is a graduation requirement and must be on your transcript before May 22.
Parents, please take time to complete the Climate Survey sent to you. We would like to know what you believe is going well and what we can improve. We will also have paper surveys and computers available during conferences February 26 and 27.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are Wednesday, February 26 (3:05 PM - 5:45 PM) and Thursday, February 27 (8:00 AM-8:00 PM) for high school and middle school students. Parents should sign the Course Request Verification sheets and turn them in during conferences. We need accurate course requests for next year to determine the number of sections we will offer. We encourage our students to attend conferences with their parents/guardians. Students will not have school February 27 or February 28 due to conferences. The East High Office will be closed Friday, February 28.

District and School Climate Survey: Coming Soon
Every voice matters in Sioux City Community Schools. That’s why we need to hear from all parents and guardians. Provide feedback using our District and School Climate Survey, which is open February 4 - March 13. The survey is available in English or Spanish.
How to take the survey:
- A link will be sent to parents/guardians by email, text message, and voicemail.
- If you do not receive a link, please contact 712-224-7471 to request a link.
- Paper surveys are available for pick up at your child’s school.
- Take the survey online at your child’s school while at conferences.
The survey asks for feedback on student and academic support, safety and behavior, school leadership, and family involvement. We will use the results to better understand our students’ needs, determine our strengths, and identify opportunities for improvement.
All survey responses are strictly confidential. The District has partnered with an independent research and communications firm, K12 Insight, to administer the survey and compile the results. District employees will not know who participates or see individual responses.

Utilizaremos los resultados para comprender mejor las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes, determinar nuestras fortalezas e identificar oportunidades de mejoría.
Todas las respuestas de la encuesta son estrictamente confidenciales. Communication and Preparedness

Should an emergency occur, the school notifies you through our Blackboard phone system. In an emergency, the system calls every phone number associated with your child in order to reach you. The message will give you details about the emergency and provide directions on when/where to pick up your child if the normal school day is altered. Learn more about school safety.
