CHARACTER WOW
Boldness vs fearfulness
“The wicked flee though no one pursues,
but the righteous are as bold as a lion.” (Proverbs 28:1)
Throughout scripture we are called upon to demonstrate boldness as we walk with God. When Joshua became the leader of Israel, God commanded him three times, “Be strong and Courageous.” (Joshua 1:6, 7, 9)
Before David became a renowned King of Israel, he courageously defeated Goliath with only a few rocks and a sling. David’s words in 1 Samuel 17:45 express the source of his courage, “David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” David’s boldness to fight Goliath came not from his own strength, but the strength of his faith in God.
In the early church, likewise, we read of church leaders like Peter, James, or John standing up for the message of the Gospel when others were scoffing or persecuting. (Acts 4:13)
It’s not always easy to do the right thing when others are doing the wrong thing. Taking a stand for God or sticking up for someone who is being mistreated requires great boldness — a boldness that we possess as we walk with God!
My Declaration: “I will live courageously for God; I will serve Him with boldness!”
Bible story: David and Goliath ( 1 Samuel 17: 1-58)
Quote: “Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened.” ~ Billy Graham
