Social Studies
Drama
Pre-K kids got to vote on the first of 8 sets of fairy tales to act out. We always say in Drama class, since the book doesn’t have pictures, we have to make our own with our bodies and voices! Every month each class will get to choose a new story and no two class choices are the same! Ask your child what story they chose, especially at the end of the year when they will act out Mr. Peck’s three favorite stories. Also ask your child about Drama Sandwich. It’s a fun game where the kids have to act two (or sometimes even three) things at once from a selection of action cards.
Music
Environmental Science
Please help your nature explorer have a safe and fun time outdoors by wearing athletic shoes and easy care clothing to school every day!
Your child will be using their senses to taste fruits and vegetables and using the leftover cores and peels to help our compost bins grow to make new “special” soil. The compost will be fun to watch when we add the class Halloween pumpkin and observe how it changes over the next three months. We will also take a “sensory” hike where the students explored the sights, smells, and sounds of our Lamplighter creek area.
This fall we will be observing and learning about cycles in our outdoor education areas. Composting our pumpkins and hopefully watching our growing gourds are some of the many cycles we will be watching right in our own Lamplighter gardens!
P.E.
This month PE, we are learning fun games that connect with what your child is learning in integrated learning. Ask your child about Bridges and Rivers Tag! The end of October we will have Halloween Centers. We will be making witches brew, helping ghost learn to fly and pretending to be zombies. Help keep your child safe during PE by having them wear tennis shoes on their PE days.
Ask your child about...
- What is Room 11's favorite tree?
- What is a calabaza?
- What is your favorite tool?
