From the Principal...

November 19th, 2021

Dear Westbrook Families,

It was so nice to see so many parents at parent teacher conferences this week. We are so thankful to our amazing PTO and parent volunteers who provided dinner for the staff on Tuesday and Thursday. Your generosity to our teachers and staff is greatly appreciated. We also had a wonderful book fair presented by the PTO and our Library staff. I am grateful to all of the volunteers who helped make the book fair a success.

As we look ahead to December, I wanted to let you know that kindergarten and first grade students will participate in a classroom presentation delivered by Lisa Ryno, School Social Worker, to educate in an age-appropriate way about childhood sexual abuse. These valuable presentations will teach students about personal safety, safe vs. unsafe touches, safety steps to follow if someone breaks the touching rule, and good secrets vs. bad secrets.

Erin’s Law mandates sexual abuse prevention education for public school children in Illinois. More information about Erin’s Law can be found here. The resources used for the first grade presentation include It’s My Body by Lory Freeman and this video (we stop the video at 2:11). The resources used for kindergarten are Your Body Belongs to You by Teri Weidner and this video (we stop the video at 2:11). Please do not hesitate to contact me or Lisa Ryno (LRyno@d57.org) if you have any follow-up questions.

I want to wish you and your family a restful and relaxing holiday break. I hope you have lots of time to spend with your family and friends. I look forward to seeing our students back at Westbrook on Monday, November 29th.

For your children,

Danielle Crandall

Note from the Nurse: COVID-19 Vaccination Card Information

Dear Parents,

District 57 offers families the opportunity to voluntarily provide their child’s COVID-19 vaccination status. This information is important to have on file as students who are fully vaccinated (2 weeks post 2nd dose) do not need to quarantine if identified as a close contact (per IDPH guidelines) and remain asymptomatic. We are asking parents to send a copy of their child's Covid vaccination card to the health office after their child receives their second dose.

Thank you,

Julie Tworek, RN

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found is very full.

Items will be donated after Winter Break.

Please come to the office to sign in if you would like to check the Lost and Found.

Lost and Found is located near the gym.

A friendly reminder to label all items your child brings to school. We try to reunite lost items with their owners before they are placed in the Lost and Found.
