Newsletter week 11 Term 1
East Gore School 15th April 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
We are at the end of the first term and what a term it has been. Lots of things have happened around the school this term in the classes. Walking around the school I have observed water cycles in bags on windows, fantastic writing, expressive reading along with some laughing and jokes. If you haven’t had the chance to pop into your child’s classroom, please do, they are looking great with a wide variety of learning on display. Some of this is sent through the Seesaw app for parents to view, if you are not connected to this, let the school know and we will send you home a code to join.
This photo is Room Kauri and Totara enjoying their Teddy Bears picnic today.
On Tuesday Rooms Rata, Rimu and Pūriri worked with Gordon and his team from Public Health South with time zone mapping in East Gore. This meant the students worked in groups and walked different directions around the streets. They made a note of how far they walked in 5 minutes and then in 10 minutes. While they were walking they were noticing things that would keep them safe when walking (pedestrian crossings) and things that were more of a hazard (power poles on the footpath). These three classes displayed our school values while out walking - well done.
Enjoy the next two weeks of the holidays, recharging your batteries ready for another busy term. See you back here on Monday 3 May.
Kia pai tō wā whakatā (Have a great holiday).

School Notices
ANZAC Day Assembly - Friday 7th May 2.20pm - all welcome
Cellphones at School
We are noticing a few students are bringing cellphones to school. They do not need them at school because we have numerous devices for the students to complete school work on. If your child needs to bring a cellphone because of an after school activity, they must hand it in at the office. At the end of the day they can collect it from Mrs Nicholson.
Teacher Only Day
Next term we will be having a Teacher Only Day on Friday 28 May. The purpose of this teacher only day is for all staff to refresh their first aid certificates which is a requirement of school staff. All schools are allowed to have a Teacher Only Day/s throughout the year however we always try to keep them to a minimum as we understand parents are busy working. Thank you for your support with this Teacher Only Day next term.
Playground Update
How exciting that the playground upgrade has started with the removal of the old playground. I am sure the family that bought the playground will get as much enjoyment from it as our school students did. We are now waiting on the new playground to be manufactured and freighted down to our school. Unfortunately there is a bit of delay with when it will be arriving so I will keep you posted. We have a bit of ground work to do before it arrives and this will be taking place early next term. Mr Yates is leading a team to install the new playground - if you are able to help out when it is time to install the new one, please let the office know.
School Photos
School photos and individual & family photos will be taken Friday 21st May. Permission forms for family/sibling photos will come home next term.
Junior school Kids Hub visit
Rooms Kauri, Totara and Puriri loved their chance to play at the Kid’s Hub playground on Monday. They loved going on the big bus!
Such an awesome treat that they very much deserved after having a brilliant Term.
Kids Hub - truckin on
Kids Hub - off fishing perhaps
Kids Hub - look how high we are!
Room Puriri
In Room Puriri we have been looking at ANZAC Day. Please call into the office and look at our fantastic writing on the wall.
