What Does it Look Like?
The elephant nose fish is a unique type of fish. The elephant nose fish is dark brown and black. It has a forked tail fin and a trunk like nose. Which is not a nose. They have two white stripes at their proboscis.They are 23 to 55cm 9 to13 inches long.
Where Does it Live?
The elephant nose fish lives in West and Central Africa it lives in rivers the rivers names are the Nigerian river basin the Ogun river basin and the Chari river.
Electric Organ
Why Does it Send Signals?
Since the elephant nose fish doesn't have very good eyesight, it uses its trunk like nose to navigate and to find food. It lives in murky waters so it would be hard to see clearly, even if it had good eyesight. It also uses its electronic organ to find mates.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the elephant nose fish is a very unique animal. One very interesting thing that I found out is that in Germany, they use Elephant Nose Fish to check if water is polluted. They put the fish into the water and listen to its beeps. If the beeps slow down, they can tell that the water is polluted.
