PSAT/NMSQT - 10/11/2017
This is a great, FREE resource that students can use. There are also multiple smart phone apps that students can downloaded as well.
Hopefully all students already have a College Board account as all Michigan students took the PSAT 9 and 10 in April. With a College Board account students can track their progress on the tests and can also link their scores to Khan Academy for more personalized practice. Juniors will take the Official SAT in April! While October scores will not be sent to colleges, it is the only opportunity to qualify for national scholarships.
We will have pregridding sessions held during school for students to bubble in their information for the test in the weeks prior to the test. Dates will be announced soon.
If you have any questions regarding the test students can check in with Mr. Wiley.

MAJOR OF THE MONTH
Engineering
Nearly all of U-M’s 19 schools, colleges and divisions rank among the best in their fields, and Engineering is no exception. All of our graduate and undergraduate programs are highly ranked and have a strong reputation for excellence. Michigan Engineering’s graduate and undergraduate programs rank 5th and 6th in the nation, respectively.
Engineers are bridge builders and game designers. They dream up new ways to make sustainable energy, fix the human body and launch people into space. They are creative and driven individuals who are looking to make a difference in the world. And they are just like you.
Michigan Engineers have access to incredible opportunities and are a part of a diverse community. Furthermore, they are problem solvers, creative thinkers, leaders, big thinkers, risk takers, and most importantly, they are making a difference in the world.
Multidisciplinary Design Program
Engineers of the future are flexible individuals that are able to examine the entire process and design creative solutions – not just worry about the technology. Although it’s common for students to focus on just one aspect of engineering like computer science or mechanics, the Multidisciplinary Design Program mimics real-life work environments by encouraging teamwork among students in different specialties.
The MDP Minor is achieved through a combined experience of traditional classes, credits earned through a design project and leadership/mentorship experience, for a total of 15 credits. Students can earn credits while working on a student team or project or even participating in a lecture or seminar.
SAT and ACT Fee Waivers
You can register to take the SAT at www.collegeboard.org or ACT at www.actstudent.org .
Changes to the FAFSA® Process
SUBMIT A FAFSA EARLIER: Students will be able to submit a 2018–19 FAFSA as early as Oct. 1, 2017, rather than beginning on Jan. 1, 2018. The earlier submission date will be a permanent change, enabling students to complete and submit their FAFSAs as early as October 1 every year.
USE EARLIER INCOME AND TAX INFORMATION: Students will be required to report income and tax information from an earlier tax year. For example, on the 2018–19 FAFSA, students (and parents, as appropriate) will report their 2016 income and tax information, rather than their 2017 income and tax information.
Here’s a summary of key dates for submitting the FAFSA:
Paying for College!!!
There will be a Financial Aid Night at Mott High School on Monday, October 16th from 6:30-8:00pm in the LGI Room. A representative from Oakland University will be able to provide information on how to file your FAFSA this October, along with any questions regarding the filing process that you may have.
Please join us for an informative evening.
