Welcome!!

Welcome to the 2019 - 2020 school year! I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to those that I have not yet met. I am Kim Mazelin, the principal for this amazing school! While I am new to Paloma this year. I am not new to TVUSD, or to administration. Actually, this year marks the beginning of my 32nd year in education. I was a classroom teacher for 25 years before becoming a reading specialist, then an assistant principal followed by an appointment to elementary principal. This is my fifth year as an elementary principal here in TVUSD. It is an honor and privilege to be a Panther this year and to serve as principal for this amazing school! Although I haven't been here long, it is evident that Paloma is a fabulous school with incredible students, families, and staff. I am excited about this year and know that it is going to be great!

We have a solid team of educators and support staff that are dedicated to the academic, behavioral, and social growth and achievement of our young Panthers. We look forward to working with you and teaming up to support our students' success this school year. We are here to support our students and families. This Week at PES

Monday, August 19

VAPA begins ~ First rotation is Visual Arts

CLOSED CAMPUS begins


  • ALL students in grades 1-5 enter through the side gates. Kinder students should enter through the Kinder gate according to the instructions given by their teachers.
  • Adults of students in grades 1-5 and Kinder parents that are entering the building must come through the lobby, sign-in through the Raptor system and wear the printed identification badge while on campus. Please sign-out as you leave campus so that we have an accurate accounting of who is on campus at all times.

PTA General Assembly Meeting, Principal's Welcome, and Staff Introductions

Please join us for our first PTA General Assembly Meeting of the 19-20 school year. This meeting will be short but sweet and is a great way to hear about our fabulous PTA and all that they do for our school.


Following the PTA Meeting, there will be a brief Principal's Welcome message, and staff introductions prior to Back to School Night.


We will meet in the Multi-Purpose Room. See you there! :)

Back to School Night

Thursday, Aug. 22nd, 6-7pm

All parents are welcomed to attend Back-to-School Night! This is a night for parents to meet their child's teacher, hear about classroom procedures, as well as what students will be learning in their new grade.


There will be two sessions so that families with more than one child at PES will be able to visit multiple classrooms. Sessions are held in classrooms. Come and learn about the new school year!


Session ONE:

6:00 - 6:25


Session TWO:

6:30 - 6:55


NOTE: KINDERGARTEN will have just ONE session that will begin at 6:00 pm!

Dismissal at PES

PES Families,


This year, with our locked campus, dismissal looks a little different. Since this is new, we are working with our staff to come up with an exit flow pattern for students that is efficient while maintaining safety for all. We are implementing the following exit plan for the end of the school day. We will evaluate its effectiveness and may need to make adjustments in the future, but for now, we will be implementing the following:



  1. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays ~ students in 1st grade will exit the building by coming through the Kinder gate to the front of the school. Students in grades 2 - 5, will exit through the gate outside the 3rd grade wing by the large double gate. A staff member will open the gate and stay there until students have all exited and then will close the gate. Kindergarten dismissal will always be at the Kinder gate.
  2. On Wednesdays, ONLY Kindergarten will exit through the Kinder gate and ALL students in grades 1-5 will exit through the gate outside the 3rd grade wing by the large double gate.


Like anything that is new, it may take some time to adjust to these new procedures and we ask for your patience as we work together to increase safety on campus.
