Superintendent Northern's Message

Good morning LISD!

Hope today finds everyone well. I want to take a moment to wish everyone a HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I want you to enjoy your break next week and definitely get some much needed rest. Take the week to rest physically as well as mentally. As you know we have extended the break two extra days for our students. The reason for this is so that you can get caught up as well as prepare for the next three weeks to finish out the semester. With all the things that are going on in our world right now it is easy to forget how blessed we are. I hope you find some time over the next week to reflect on your many blessings.

Please be safe and stay well!

Jeff Northern,

LISD Superintendent

Please remember to vote for Bill's BackPacks, The LIFE Foundation, The Wallace Theater and The Levelland Chamber of Commerce to win part of the $60,000 that City Bank is giving away while you are on Thanksgiving Break. You can vote every hour and more than once if you have more than one email. In the Lubbock region, Bill’s Backpacks is listed under Basic Human Needs, LIFE is under Education & Youth, Levelland Chamber of Commerce and The Wallace are under Community Contribution and Leadership.

During American Education Week, we love telling you about our educators!

LMS Computer Science Class Participate in Fab-Lab

It's American Education Week and what better way to celebrate than by spreading the great news of some of our LISD educators? LMS Computer Science and Robotics Students from Celinda Rejino and James Daniel's classes participated in the Fab-Lab at the Science Spectrum on Saturday. They created a computer-aided design and printed it on a 3D printer. Then, they designed and laser printed a net for their programmed drone to deliver objects across the room. Last, they created and laser printed a bridge for the Sphero robot to successfully cross a body of water. It was a fun-filled day of STEM for LMS students! Thanks to the Fab-Lab ladies at the Science Spectrum and teachers Celinda Rejino and James Daniel for giving this incredible opportunity to a fantastic group of students.

LIFE Grants Money to a Dog!

MK Clinton said, “The world would be a nicer place if everyone had the ability to love as unconditionally as a dog.” We are so excited to announce that LABC educator Tammy Perez and her therapy dog, Arry were awarded a $150 grant by the LIFE Foundation. LIFE awarded the grant to Arry and Ms. Perez to purchase a Pet Bed & Place, Arry's therapy calling cards, and a life-size stand-up of Arry for the LABC entryway. Arry has been such an asset to many students at ABC, assisting with motivation, educational, and therapeutic needs that enhance the school day's quality. Teachers are also in love with Arry! A huge thank you to the LIFE Foundation for this awesome grant to Arry and Ms. Perez.

Thankful for Teachers

It's American Education Week, and LIS students are "thankful" for their teachers every day and showing their appreciation to teachers this week! In Counselor Sandy Billington's classes, LIS students participated in a "thankful" project and wrote notes to their teachers explaining why they were important to them. Students put the letters in a bag and decorated a class tree with student's names and thumbprints. Thank you, Mrs. Billington, for helping students honor our LISD educators in making a difference in education. Our teachers are so important for our goals, successes, and outcomes.

LHS Lizzie Corley Recognized

WTA&MU President Walter V Wendler recognized LHS Sophomore Lizzie Corley, who won the People's Choice Award, the Best Overall Award, and the Judges Choice Award in the Wallace Theater Video Challenge. Being recognized by a university this early in high school is amazing. This opens doors for Lizzie and offers her choices in colleges that she might attend. LISD is so proud of the extra work you put in, Lizzie, to start making an impact on your future! Congratulations on being noticed!

Police Connect with South Students

The Levelland ISD police officers visited with South students. They reminded students of stranger danger, school behavior, and showing kindness and respect! A huge kudos goes out to Officers Harrelson, Foley, and Miranda for connecting with our kids! We appreciate all you do to keep us safe every day in every way! #LevellandISD

Capitol Students Count Their Blessings

Capitol hosted a Family Blessings Night. Students and parents created sayings and drawings with chalk to show what they're thankful for! Capitol is thankful for all their awesome students and parents! What a fun activity right before Thanksgiving!

NHS Inducts New Members

LHS inducted 28 new members into the National Honor Society last night. NHS elevates a student’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. This honor recognizes students' achievements in class and in the community. NHS encourages students to continue doing their best and opens up opportunities for their future. These students will give back to the community by working with Bill's BackPacks, helping with Keep Levelland Beautiful, and more. Congratulations to these great LHS students!
