Behavior Basics
The Key to Effective Behavior Management?
From BIAS Behavioral Interventions and Solutions:
Have you ever heard the saying, "NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF CALMING DOWN HAS ANYONE CALMED DOWN BY BEING TOLD TO CALM DOWN"?When a person is in crisis, they immediately feel as though everything is spiraling out of control, and that loss of control is often evident through their behavior. As the situation begins to magnify, people resort to "making the behavior STOP" as fast as possible. This is often delivered through threatening statements or other things that can further provoke challenging behavior.
So what can you do in this situation instead?
Validation and problem-solving are two of the most important strategies you can use when helping a person in crisis. This is an effective way to build trust and respect for them as individuals.
Big feelings manifest differently in everyone and while it is important to ensure that certain rules are followed and tasks are completed; listening, validating, and helping should take center stage.

They have a family portal on their website that is an easy way to find providers in your area. Their dedicated, professional staff are available by phone to assist families and many of them are parents themselves of children with disabilities or special healthcare needs.
