A Message From Principal Cruz-Soto
Mountain View Families,
We made it! I know that this last past few months has been challenging for you as parents & guardians as you navigated the pandemic as it related to careers, childcare, staying healthy, and the overall safety of your family. I could not be more proud of our parents and staff for helping our students finish out the year strong during tough times with COVID19 and the national events that have unfolded. So congratulations to YOU and our students for making it until the end of the year! We did it!
For our 6th Graders, we will miss them as they start their journey in middle school and embark on a new adventure. Remember you are Mustangs! Good luck!
The summer goes by very quickly and before you know it September 2nd will be right around the corner. Be sure to continue to check your email and the CUSD website to keep current on school news. Thank you for your continued support and positivity as we strive to do what is best for ALL of our students.
Have a great summer!

Mountain View's Trimester 3 Grading Procedure
Distance learning has been a completely new experience for all of us as we have ventured into this unknown territory. Our Mountain View staff has spent quite a bit of time discussing how we would measure student progress during the third trimester. We have decided, along with most CUSD elementary schools, that Mountain View will not be utilizing the traditional 1 through 4 grading system for the third trimester. Therefore, numerical grades will not be assigned in the traditional manner this trimester. Participation, engagement, and effort will be noted in the comments section of the report card. Report Cards will be placed in your child's belongings and available for pick up on your scheduled date and time (see material drop off/pick up schedule below).
We also want to express our gratitude to all of you for your efforts and dedication in supporting your child in daily online learning. We know it has been challenging at times and, like you, we are looking forward to students being back on campus as soon as it is safe to do so!
A Message From Your PFA President, Stefany Mezones
Hello Mustang Families,
This is your PFA president Stefany Mezones. Last time we all saw each other was March 13th and I remember we were all at the tail end of penny wars. Staff and students were so excited to see who would win, as they were bringing in their pennies and loose change by the buckets! We quickly learned how competitive our teachers are and how amazing it felt to have that love and support from our families. Unfortunately, our world took a turn and we had to cut it short. We all stepped in and discovered what distance learning was for the first time. Everyone had different types of classrooms at home and many parents became teacher aides. Today, I am happy to say "WE ALL SURVIVED!" We made it through distance learning, common core, and best of all we watched our children grow right before your eyes.
Mustangs, I know many of you wished you were at school instead, missed your friends, and didn't get to do all the activities you had wanted to. But Mustangs we are all so proud of you! I know that there is not one of you that did not come out stronger from this life experience. Wiser too, I'm sure your parents taught you things that your teachers couldn't have at home. You all did a magnificent job adapting to the changes and supporting your teachers from afar. Mustangs now that is something to be proud of!
I owe you all Penny Wars News. Let me start by saying thank you so much for participating, following penny war directions, and really helping your classroom and teachers. I know many of you still had many more pennies to bring in, but our time was cut short and I am happy to say we did a great job even with the few days we had. Remember that the winning classrooms were the highest amount collected, the most points, the least points, and the least amount collected. Classroom winners were as follow,
Lower-grade:
Classroom with the highest amount collected
MRS. CORONADO - T/K & K
Classroom with the most points
MRS. CARR-HANDLEY - 2ND GRADE
Classroom with the least points/amount collected
MRS. DAIFOTIS - 2ND/3RD GRADE
Upper-grade:
Classroom with the highest amount collected and the most points -
MRS. FREE - 5TH GRADE
Classroom with the least points -
MRS. STRADLEY - 4TH GRADE
Classroom with least amount collected -
MRS. BEARDEN - 5TH GRADE
Congratulations to these classrooms! I know we couldn't have our classroom parties and prizes due to everything but PFA put a winning goodie bag together for all those students that won. You will receive them when you head back to school to pick up your belongings on your grade level designated date.
As many of you already know, my time as president has come to an end. At this time the PFA and I will be closing out this school year's books and switching over to a brand new cabinet. Before I go and pass on that baton to our upcoming amazing new president, I want to take this time to thank you all for the outpour of love and support I have received these two years as your Mountain View president. Thank you to all those parents who attended our PFA meetings, the families that came out to events, supported every fundraiser, to everyone that kindly and willingly volunteered. To our awesome teachers and amazing staff members that helped out this year. Best of all, to all that gave so much to our students and school community. Our mustang families are truly priceless! Although the PFA is known for the group that helps out our students and school financially through fundraising, we too are here for you all emotionally. During these different times, the PFA wants you all to know that we miss and love you Mustangs! We volunteer and dedicate our time and efforts because of every single one of you. You all make us want to give more, do more, and seeing smiles on your faces is what makes this job so rewarding. You and your family give so much that we are thankful to be a part of this group. Ending our school year like this is so hard. We feel we missed out on many more smiles to have shared, lots more hugs, and much more family bonding time. But things happen, and all we can do now is look back at those moments we built together. I know we are all trying to find ways to celebrate and show our Mustangs love. Staff is working hard on a different kind of celebration for those leaving us and we are working hard with things to receive our students with when they come back on campus. So we hope to bring that emotional support we all need through these special surprises.
To our 6th graders, CONGRATULATIONS! You did it! Moving on up to middle school is most definitely a big deal and something to celebrate. Our students from Tk through 5th grade, you did it too! Moving on up to the next grade is like moving up to that next level on a video game. Congrats to you all on that accomplishment! Wishing our Mustangs a safe summer and see you all next year.
With love,
Your 2019-2020 PFA president
Stefany Mezones
