Principal's Pride Page
Keeping you Informed
"Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few.."
Hello All,
I've been able to introduce myself to students, parents, and staff separately by face-to-face meetings and through various welcome letters which you can find here and here. Now I'd like to do so collectively:
My name is Samuel Martina and I am the new high school principal at Red Jacket for the 2015-16 school year. I am hoping to work with you all to make this a successful year for our students academically, socially, and emotionally.
Updates:
Our maintenance staff has been working at a breakneck pace to put the finishing touches on the capital project improvements slated for the high school. The front entrance has a new coat of paint on it; the fluorescent lights in classrooms, gymnasiums, and hallways have been changed over to energy-efficient LED bulbs; floors have been waxed; room doors have been re-keyed; the parking lot has been re-lined; a new crosswalk with warning lights has been installed. Countless other improvements continue to be finished in order to keep Red Jacket high school looking great, being safe, and offering a welcoming environment for students, parents, and staff alike. So if you see a maintenance or custodial worker on school grounds or in the community, make sure to say thank you!
The 1:1 Chromebook roll out is also being finalized. Though many are anxious and excited to start this new technological adventure, we are of the firm belief that when it comes to an effective roll out, we would rather focus on doing it right over doing it right now. The first step is having students and parents sign the technology acceptable usage policy. This will be given to students as part of the opening day procedures. It is important to note that Chromebooks will not be handed out until all policies have been collected. This way, we can guarantee that all students have access to the technology they will be utilizing in their classes.

LOCKER DAY!
- High School Locker Day is September 3rd from 9 AM to 12 PM. Office staff will be available to assist with any questions or issues.
One big difference from past years is that we anticipate more students will want to have a lock as they will be responsible for maintaining the security of their Chromebooks. REGULATIONS STATE THAT ANY LOCK USED MUST BE ONE PROVIDED BY THE HIGH SCHOOL OFFICE FOR A RENTAL FEE OF $5.00. When the student is done using the lock, they may return it to the office and be reimbursed the rental fee. Any unapproved lock that is found on a student locker will be removed with bolt cutters, which will invariably render the lock useless.
- Senior Parent Night is September 22nd starting at 7 PM.
- Open House is October 6th at 6:30 PM.
