PANTHER PRESS/PRENSA DE PANTERA
Week of August 31st
A NOTE FROM MS. BAZZ
Congratulations on surviving your first week of remote learning for the 20-21school year! We are crazy proud of all of our students and their families. This is not an easy job for any of us but we are all in this together and with open lines of communication we can and will succeed. Speaking of communication...WE WILL ONLY BE USING SEESAW for communication this year. Class Dojo will no longer be used. We apologize to our families, as we know how much this platform was loved. We are hopeful you will learn to love Seesaw just as much. As a parent, I love having Seesaw for my son in Lemont. I can see every assignment he uploads and even look at comments his teacher makes on the assignments. This comes in really handy because it gives me some talking points about his work. If you haven't already, you should definitely check out your child's Seesaw Journal and see what kind of work they are turning in!
The Pershing Staff have been working hard to bring engaging material to your students. Please continue to support your at-home learner(s) with a quiet area to be able to work, a schedule for the day, and make sure you are signed up your child's Seesaw account so you are getting up-to-date communication. Please if you are having any issues, reach out to your child's teacher, Mrs. Simpson, or I and we would be happy to help. Keep in mind that when downloading the app. families will want to download the FAMILY SEESAW app, not the CLASS app. Below you will find a quick "HOW-TO" for Seesaw, just in case you need it.

From time to time, we may experience tech outages or issues. When we become aware of the issues, we will post something like this on our SEESAW Accounts: There is a technical issue with Zoom/Clever at this time. We are working quickly to resolve the issue. We will let you know when it is back up. When this happens, students can be doing any number of things.... read to self, read to a family member or pet, draw a picture about a read aloud they heard recently, journal about anything they like, take a movement break with some deep breaths, etc.
Tech Outages
You can check the status of Zoom here

One last reminder. No one should be recording any of the classroom zoom calls or lessons being taught. If you think your child missed the concept being taught, or may need some extra help, or even if you need some extra help in order to help your child, please just reach out and ask the teacher. He/She would be more than happy to go over a concept with your child a 2nd or even a 3rd time.
Una nota de la Sra. Bazz

https://status.zoom.us/https://status.zoom.us/
POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION and SUPPORT (PBIS)
POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION and SUPPORT (PBIS)
Encouraging Positive Behaviors at School AND Home
Welcome back to the 2020-2021 school year! This year is a big change for all of us. As we begin our remote school year, we want to introduce you to some expectations we will be sharing with your students through our PBIS program.
What is PBIS? PBIS is a behavior program that our district has used for many years to support positive behaviors. It is meant to improve our school environment. Instead of focusing on what a student might be doing “wrong”, we want to support them when they are doing what is expected of them.
Why use PBIS? PBIS teaches our entire school community what behaviors are expected. Students will all learn the appropriate behaviors and be given a consistent message regarding what is expected of them.
But we’re not in school now. During remote learning, we still have expectations for student behavior. It will look different, but it’s even more important for students to understand our expectations of them AND for parents to partner with us to help reinforce these behaviors at home.
Students throughout the district will be receiving PBIS expectations specific to Remote Learning starting Monday August 24th. The overall expectations for remote learning are below. If you have multiple students at home K-8, they will all receive this information. We want to share this with you, so you can talk to your students about what they have learned, and reinforce this at home. Lessons for this week and next include: Creating Your Learning Space, Being Engaged on Zoom, Knowing Your Schedule, Being Engaged When Working on My Own, Solving Problems When Working Remotely.
Remote learning is new for all of us, and we are here to help. If you have any questions about this information, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
