Language Arts

The spelling lesson this week looks at silent letters, in words beginning with /kn/ and /wr/.

Last week we spent time researching desert animals, and this week we will begin compiling our information and writing a research paper.

In writing this week, we are peer editing and revising our ABC books.

We have completed Chapter 6 in My Math on three digit addition, and will begin Chapter 7, three digit subtraction this week. We reviewed for the Chapter 6 test today, and your child will have a review sheet for homework tonight. The chapter test will be on Tuesday.

We will have our last fact test this Thursday. If your child has passed all fact tests, please continue to practice these facts with them periodically over the summer. If your child has not passed all of the addition fact tests, please continue to work with them through the summer. Fact fluency is an extremely important skill going into third grade.

We have enjoyed watching the life cycles of the praying mantis, frog, milkweed bug and ladybug in our room during the last few weeks. This morning we were able to watch three of our butterflies emerge from their chrysalis! This week we will discuss how animals are classified and the characteristics of each classification.
