SIG @ EMORY 2014

Parent Weekly Newsletter, Week 2

From Jeff - Director

We are well into the second week of our session at Emory and, as usual, I am completely amazed by the wonderful things your students are accomplishing. I have witnessed many creative and thoughtful activities both in and out of class. Students continue to develop connections and are learning to live in a community where everyone is achieving at a high level. Thanks to those who have communicated with us regarding your child's experience with our program. We truly want to provide an atmosphere that will uncover, nurture & grow your child’s gifts.

From Lynnea - Academic Dean

Classes at SIG are well underway and I have had the opportunity to see students express strong excitement as they gain new insight in everything from Philosophy to Pharmacology. Students have had the opportunity to do use technology to solve problems such as childhood obesity, become chemists by creating standard solutions, and create original animations and musicals. In addition students have been visited by guest speakers and taken campus field trips to places such as the CDC and Biotechnology lab. Students have grown in their ability to express themselves and their understanding of complex concepts, the have worked both independently and with their peers. As they begin their culminating experiences, I look forward to being continually amazed in all they can create in each of the 38 courses being offered here at SIG Emory this session.

From Stacey - Student Life Dean

We are exactly halfway through camp and we are having a great time! The Museum and the Mall were so much fun over the weekend. Your students have done a great job navigating the dining hall, food court, and a college campus. This week we will celebrate the 4th of July with a BBQ and also view fireworks from all over the city from the tall parking deck on campus. We are also very much looking forward to residential students performing in the student talent show this Sunday evening. Students have made new friends, done laundry, and tried new fun and exciting activities. Thank you for sharing your children with us.

From Wade - Student Activities Coordinator

The fun never stops here at SIG Emory! This past week we have competed in fun Minute to Win it activities, challenged our minds during Brain Bowl, watched our staff be silly in the Staff Talent show, and went swimming at the PE Center. Our afternoon rec activities are still going strong with soccer, basketball, and computer lab being popular choices. This coming week will be our much awaited trip to Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor Water Park. Our Student Talent show will be this Sunday evening at 7:30 in White Hall 208. Everyone is invited to attend.
