Igo Family Newsletter - Issue 13 - October 22, 2021

A message from Mrs. Rodriguez

Igo families,

Monday is the first day of the second grading cycle. Time flies! We will soon enter the holiday season. Our goal for the next few weeks is to continue with our PAWS motto and strive for each and every student to find success in their learning and with their social/emotional experiences.

PEOPLE FIRST- Are you treating others how you want to be treated?

ALWAYS LEARNING- Are you open to learning something new or practicing what you know and teaching others?

WORDS MATTER- Are you choosing words that help or hurt? Encourage or discourage?

SUCCESS FOR ALL- Are you making choices that help you grow and our community?

This Tuesday is our first ever Coffee with the Principal/Café con la directora at 9:00 AM.

I welcome you to come and hear campus updates and share any questions you have.

Parents, we ask for your partnership in the following areas:

The front parking lot is a bus lane only from 7:00-7:30 AM and from 2:45-3:30 PM. It is a safety risk when parents use the front parking lot as a drop-off or pick-up area.

The back loop is the car rider line. There are multiple teachers and safety patrol students on duty beginning at 7:05 AM. We are there to welcome car riders and get them safely into the building.

There are a few special circumstances where parents will park in the front lot and walk their child into the building to meet a teacher for an escort.

Once you establish the routine with your child, they will adapt to you dropping them off in the back car rider line.

School begins at 7:30 AM sharp. There are students who continue to arrive after the tardy bell. This means students miss the morning meeting and are not able to start the day off right with their teacher. Three late arrivals equal one absence. This will affect your child's learning if the absences accrue.

Our attendance rate goal is 97%. Right now we are not meeting this goal at each grade level. The spirit dress up days is one method we are using to boost attendance.

Let's make it a great week,

Mrs. Rodriguez

October 29 Character Day Parade

Parents,

On Friday, October 29, we will host a character parade where students can dress up in a costume based on a character from a novel, book, movie, or show. This is connected to literacy. It is not for Halloween. Costumes for this parade must not have blood, weapons, or masks. If students come with these items they will be taken up and parents can pick them up from the front office. Parents are invited to watch the parade in the front parking lot. You may park in the front lot.

JISD Remote Conferencing Information

Jarrell ISD is supporting all students who need to stay at home for COVID-positive test results or because of close contact to a positive case of COVID-19. JISD is offering remote conferencing to support students during this time. If your student meets the eligibility criteria, they may qualify for remote conferencing.

Eligible students include the following as listed by TEA (Texas Education Agency):

These two requirements must be met:

  • The student is unable to attend school because of a temporary medical condition.

  • The total amount of remote conferencing instruction does not exceed more than 20 instructional days over the entirety of the school year.

In addition, one of the following requirements also must be met:

  • The student’s temporary medical condition is documented by a physician licensed to practice in the United States. The documentation must include a statement from the physician that the student is to remain confined to their home or to a hospital.

  • The student has a positive test result for a communicable condition listed in 25 TAC §97.7.

  • The student has been identified as having been in close contact with COVID-19.

Remote conferencing instructional support is a short-term opportunity allowing your child to stay within the 90% attendance requirement and not fall behind on assignments while absent. Please note, this is not remote instruction. Instead, this setting will provide up to four hours of synchronous (live) per day of teacher support from an online facilitator to assist students with assignment completion. There is also one required daily attendance meeting that is mandatory for students to be counted present for the day. To the extent possible, a dedicated certified teacher will be designated to provide the remote conferencing support throughout the duration of the student's time in this temporary setting, but it will not be the students’ teacher of record.

Please note, if you are electing this option because of COVID-positive or close

contact, you will need to provide documentation to your campus.

Any parent who wishes to have their child participate in remote conferencing will need to complete a registration form found on the Remote Conferencing website.

An email will be sent out to the students’ JISD email address when they are accepted into Remote Conferencing with instructions on how to access it. Additionally, more

information will be shared with parents/guardians.

For more information, visit the Remote Conferencing website.

School Hours

The school day begins promptly at 7:30 AM and ends at 3:00 PM.

Instruction begins at 7:30 AM. The doors will open at 7:05 AM. Students may eat breakfast in the cafeteria or they will report to their designated areas until they are dismissed to their classrooms. Students will be counted tardy if they are not in their classroom by 7:30 AM.

All children who want or need to eat breakfast will have the opportunity. We are still establishing and practicing our arrival procedures. It will take a bit of time to become smooth.

Morning Arrival

  • If you arrive after 7:30 AM, you must sign your child in at the front office. Your child is tardy. Three tardies equals one absence.
  • The back car rider entrance is for car riders only and doors will be locked at 7:30 AM. All staff will be inside by this time to begin instruction for the day.

Afternoon Pick-up

  • If you arrive after 3:30 PM, you must pick up your child in the front office.
  • The back car rider pick up ends at 3:30 PM and staff will be off duty by this time.

JISD Student Absences for COVID-19 and Class Credit

  • The Jarrell ISD Student Handbook (page 34) states, "To receive credit or a final grade in a class, a student must attend at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered. A student who attends fewer than 90 percent of the days the class is offered will be referred to the attendance review committee to determine whether there are extenuating circumstances for the absences and how the student can regain credit or a final grade lost because of absences."

Jarrell ISD administrators understand the COVID-19 pandemic may place students and families in very difficult circumstances. The health and safety of our students remain our top priority. We do not want students to jeopardize themselves or others by attending school when they are sick because they are concerned about missing too much school. Therefore, if your child contracts COVID-19 and must miss 10 days of school for quarantine, students and parents are encouraged to work with their campus administration. An attendance committee will meet to determine if your student has mastered the class material. If your student demonstrates mastery of the class, the time missed due to COVID-19 will not impact his or her ability to receive full credit for the class. This applies to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Please know our path forward regarding attendance during the pandemic is subject to change pending new legislation or guidance from the Texas Education Agency.
