2023-2024 School Year :: Week of Sept.5, 2023
A Message from Mrs. Hankins
I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend. Our classes were busy at work this last week, and getting back into that school routine. We are jumping into our Successful Learner Traits, completing our Principal's Challenge, and using our WOW Words of the Week.
Mrs. Morton has worked with students and staff to get Flag Raisers, Announcement Teams, and popping into classrooms to discuss bus safety for all. Our bus drivers also have Bus Leaders for drills to help our younger students.
We appreciate everyone working together to make JSE a wonderful place to be! I hope to see some of you tonight at our PTO meeting at 6.
Have a wonderful week,
Mrs. Hankins

Apples for the Students
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Each year our school relies upon holding fundraisers to help pay for the many excellent educational equipment we offer to the student body. This year, our goal is to collect 200,000 points through Strack and Van Til receipts.
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of our fundraising mission to collect Stracks receipts. Anytime you or anyone you know goes to a Stracks please collect the receipt(s) and send it with your child to school. I will collect the receipts in my classroom and tally up the totals at the end of each trimester. I will then send these receipts to Strack and Van Til to receive items that will help our students thrive. It is with hope that we may use these points to obtain incentives for students, supplies for teachers, and games for the school.
Please contact me at akegebein@union.k12.in.us for further details about the Apples for Students program or to ask any questions you may have.
Our targeted goal is to reach 60,000!
I’m looking forward to working with you and your child during this campaign. Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kegebein

Indiana Learning Lab: Parent and Family Support Hub
From Indiana Department of Education:
Earlier this month, we launched our newest feature in the Indiana Learning Lab: The Parent & Family Support Hub! The Indiana Learning Lab, first launched in 2021 to support our educators, has now grown to more than 44,000 users. As student and educator needs evolve, the Learning Lab is evolving as well. The new Parent and Family Hub was launched as a way to support parents and families of students in early learning through grade 12.
The platform will feature vetted websites, videos, workshops, and other content focused on literacy and STEM instruction, in particular. These resources will be available to parents 24/7, allowing them to access the content whenever it is most convenient for them and their family.
Our IDOE team is also currently planning several September sessions in the Learning Lab to provide information to families, as well as educators, about the Dolly Parton Imagination Library…and the important role that parents and families play in supporting their children to read (ex. ensuring your child reads 30 minutes per day).
