2019-2020 Enrollment

It's nearly that time of year again! Classical School's new student application period for the 2019-2020 school year will begin December 1, 2018. Applications will be accepted for the lottery beginning on December 1, 2018. Applications will be accepted for the lottery through February 15, 2019. Any applications received after that date will be added to the waiting list (or enrollment list if we still have openings) in the order in which they are received.

Students who are currently attending Classical School do NOT need to reapply; however, siblings who are not currently enrolled at Classical School must submit a completed application during the lottery application acceptance window to be included in and receive sibling priority in the lottery drawing. Incoming kindergarteners for the 2019-2020 school year also need to apply between December 1, 2018 and February 15, 2019 to be included in the lottery drawing.

Paper applications will be available beginning December 1st outside the school office. Alternatively, there will be an online application that may be accessed from the school's website at http://www.classicalcharter.com/prospective-families/application-procedure/. Please contact Joanne Bielmeier with any questions about the lottery process: bielmeierjoann@aasd.k12.wi.us.

Charter Fair

Classical School will be participating in a charter fair on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, from 10 am to 1:30pm, at the Community Early Learning Center (CELC). The CELC is located at 313 S. State Street in Appleton. Please share this information with any families you know who may be interested in learning more about Classical School or other charter school options. Other participating schools include Appleton Public Montessori, Foster Elementary Charter School, Fox River Academy, Wisconsin Connections Academy, and Appleton Bilingual School. A larger AASD school fair is planned for Saturday, January 12, 2019, from 10 am to noon, at City Center Plaza in Appleton.

Please also note, we will again be holding Informational Sessions for prospective families on Wednesdays, December 12, 2018; January 9, 2019; and February 6, 2019. These sessions will be held at 6:30 pm, in room 122 at Classical School. The sessions will include a presentation to review the school’s mission and philosophy, time for questions, and the opportunity to view curriculum materials. A tour of the school will also be provided for those interested. Current Classical School families who would like to learn more about the school or share insight with prospective families are encouraged to attend. Please contact Joanne Bielmeier with any questions at bielmeierjoann@aasd.k12.wi.us.

Meet Our Classical School Paraprofessionals

Our paraprofessionals are so valuable to our program! They help out in kindergarten and first grade classrooms, work with small groups for reading and math, run our library, perform supervision duties on the playground and in the forum during lunch, assist with office duties, work on teacher projects, and much, much more. Please take a minute to thank them for their service and care of our students!

Report Cards

Report cards will go home on Thursday, November 8th, in the Pegasus Flyers for all grades. Middle School Honor Roll will be posted on November 13th outside each middle school homeroom. We will also include the Honor Roll in next month's Classical Columns.

Thanksgiving Break

Students are off from school Wednesday, November 21st through Friday, November 23rd.

Change of Clothing for Kindergarten Students

Please be sure to send an extra set of clothes with your kindergarten student in case of bathroom accidents. Kindergarteners feel much more comfortable changing into their own clothes instead of using the loaner clothes provided by the health room. Thank you!

Staff Members' Favorite Things

As the winter months begin, families ask for suggestions for special treats or gifts to give teachers and other staff members. To make this easier for families, we have asked staff members to fill out a list of favorite treats, hobbies, and interests, etc. This list can be found in the school office. Please no phone calls to the school office regarding the lists. Thank you!

FUNDRAISING CORNER

BOXTOPS: We had our first boxtops contest of the school year October 8th - October 12th. Volunteers have worked hard to get the final count -- thank you! Mrs. Campshure's class came in first for the elementary level with a whopping 1,284 labels, and Mrs. Cote's class came in first for the middle school level with 322. Congratulations to those two classrooms -- they have earned the Classical School Spirit Award trophy for Boxtops! The total number of boxtops collected school wide was 4,997 which computes to $499.70 for our school!!

DOES YOUR EMPLOYER MATCH DONATIONS? Company matching gift programs give you the opportunity to help direct your company's charitable donations toward our school. Many companies will not match a gift less than $25, but employees are usually entitled to several matches per year, up to several hundred dollars or more. Already made a donation? Not a problem. Most companies will match your gifts for up to 12 months after you've made your donation.

It's easy -- just three simple steps!

Step 1: Follow the link to find out if your company matches donations:

https://www.1800runaway.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/corporate-match-directory.pdf

Step 2: Obtain a matching gift form from your Human Resources office or check your company's website for downloadable forms.

Step 3: Submit the completed form.

Thank you for considering supporting our school and your child's education in this way!

Traffic Flow on Durkee Street

Thank you to all the parents who are using Durkee Street terrace before and after school as a quick drop-off & pick-up spot! We have had a very positive response overall to the success of the traffic flow pattern.

Please remember if you would like to read, text, or work while you wait for your child(ren), you may choose to park in the Einstein park or Einstein school parking lots.

Parents should not be picking up students from the staff parking lots.

Your cooperation is appreciated by all!

Cough Drops/Throat Lozenges

With cold and cough season fast approaching, we are asking parents to refrain from sending cough or throat lozenges to school. These small, slippery, hard discs can become a choking hazard for children. For the safety of our students, we ask that these items not be brought to school or kept in the office for student use.

Valley Transit

Did you know middle and high school students with an AASD ID card ride Valley Transit buses for free? For more information, visit myvalleytransit.com.

Concordia Language Village

Thirty five middle school students will be heading to Bemidji, Minnesota November 1-4, 2018. They will have the opportunity to practice Spanish in an immersive environment with culturally authentic activities, crafts, songs, food, and more. Those students are reminded to arrive at school at 6:45 a.m. on November 1st.

Fall Fest & Book Fair Appreciation

Thank you, Ann Krieg, Annie Knudson, Sara Thompson, and Laurie Munson for coordinating Fall Fest and Book Fair!

We so appreciate your hard work and the many hours you put in the planning and execution of each event! We also thank the many, many parent and staff volunteers who donated their time to making this an enjoyable night for all. It was great to see so many new parents get involved and, as always, we so appreciate the parents who have been with us through many of these events supporting our efforts and giving of their time and talents.
